In Recent time, micronutrient deficiency due to lack of diet diversity is common in developing countries. And the issue is gaining attention due to the hidden consequences of impaired physical and cognitive development.

The plates of poor households in India lack nutritional diversity leading to malnourishment. Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state with an estimated population of 220 million, alone accounts for over an estimated 500,000 annual child deaths, of which nearly 45% can be attributed to under nutrition of the mother and children (Lancet 2013).
