Even as the pandemic continues to rage on and overwhelms families, frontline workers, and health systems, it has been heartening to see people and organizations step up and help selflessly. At Agrasar, we are assessing needs and mobilizing resources to assist those affected to the best of our abilities. Our team members and their families have been affected and are currently recovering from Covid. We have experienced firsthand the impact of an overburdened health system and glaring gaps in service delivery.

1) Lack of Oxygen Cylinders, Oxygen masks, Oximeters and Thermometers

The community does not have any oximeters or sufficient thermometers, which could be life-saving by early detection of symptoms. Furthermore, there is a paucity of oxygen cylinders and oxygen masks for the patients undergoing treatment.

2) Lack of masks

While we walk easily into a medical store to buy an N95 or any other appropriate mask at any cost (because right now safety is more important than money), people in underserved communities of Gurgaon are finding it difficult to buy affordable masks for themselves and their family.

As per the latest medical advice, a pair of cotton fabric masks and N 95 masks is best to save against Covid.

1) Our immediate priority has been to source and provide oxygen cylinders, oxygen flow meters, and oxygen masks to patients in home-care settings. We have identified channels to mobilize and transport oxygen cylinders across states to families that are desperate for them. We are also assisting with refilling cylinders on a real-time basis. We now have our processes streamlined and are ready to scale up.

2)  We also plan to distribute 200,000 cotton fabric masks and 4000 N95 masks over a period of 3 months. 10 to a family, considering the average family size to be 5 and each member would need 2 masks. We will be able to produce a cotton fabric mask for INR 20 which will last for more than 6 months as it is affordable, reusable, and made of high-quality Cambric Cotton with breathable fabric. We ensure that the masks have 3 layers of cotton cloth with 3 palettes are as per MoHFW Guidelines.

3) And, 100 Oximeter and 100 Thermometer for 1000 families. A device will be used in clusters consisting of around 10 families. 

We aim to save 25000 migrant workers families from catching covid 19 by ensuring masks and safety protocol. We also aim to provide timely oxygen supply to atleast 500 families over next few months.

As is with most organizations working through this pandemic, we are first-timers grappling with the challenges and are learning on the job. As we try to keep afloat and work on keeping the morale high of the team, it has been heart-warming to receive the offering of help from the immediate community and beyond. We are now fully equipped to receive the donations that will help us ramp up our efforts.

Since there is such a high demand for cylinders, there is currently no standard rate. We, therefore, request you to make donations of any amount and we will keep you updated on how we have utilized the money and how many people have benefitted.
