“Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.” – Helen Keller
Anshika, a 10-year-old bright student of Pelpa village in Jhajjar can be seen helping her mother in her household chores and taking care of her siblings. Coming from a family of 05 members where her father working as a Pvt Driver earning 10,000/month and her mother as a housewife. Just like many Govt school students from rural areas anshika also didn’t get the chance to visit the school and meet her teachers and friends. She joined the learning center 03 months back in her village with all her other classmates. Initially, she and all other students used their Smartphones to Log In to the class where everyday videos and exercises were sent to them and feedback calls in the evening to check the progress. As the classes started she started to join in through the single smartphone of the family and slowly started to grasp what was been taught and talking to a fellow in the evening gave her the time to ask her doubts. After few weeks when her father saw how she was trying everyday and learning he decided to start his day a little late and when it was not possible he tried to reach the early evening so she could watch the video before the call.
Anshika who was in section B (Section for students who are not at grade level and are been taught the basics and brought to the grade level) with the support of her family and her constant hard work she after 2.5 months have gained in all the gaps and now in few months, she would be transitioning to section A ( Section of students who are at grade level and are been given high order thinking questions). She has been a motivation to her peers, the fellows, teachers, and ours as well. In this process of her becoming an inspiration to many fellows like Himanshi and Joginder also played an important role. Our fellows are youth from the same community who are pursuing B.ED and want to become teachers in the future. In these pandemic times they have faced issues in doing their Internships in schools and gaining Hands-on experience, and unable to prepare for the Govt Teacher Recruitment. Being from the same village they were confused about what to do and the household conditions were not enough to help them take risks like going outside to study.
Himanshi and Joginder can be seen discussing the student's performance based on the data from the assessments and organizing PTM to help increase the participation of all in improving the chances of students like Anshika.
There are many inspiring stories like Anshika, Himanshi, and Joginder in our different centers who are giving a strong fight to the present times to reach a state of self-reliance.
Your support would help us reach to new geographies in search of students like Anshika and Youth like Himanshi and Joginder and create more community role models.
