Retinoblastoma is a life-threatening eye cancer that affects children. The cancer grows from the retina, which is a sensory layer located inside the eye. Once the cancer spreads outside the eye it becomes a threat to life, especially when it spreads to the brain and other parts of the body.
Iksha Foundation, now in its 8th year, is working with an objective to be a supporting hand for underprivileged children with Retinoblastoma (eye cancer).
In order to achieve our goal, we work on a few basic principles which are enlisted below:
1) Provide complete aid for treatment of underprivileged children with RB.
2) Be in regular contact with hospitals and parents of the patients to ensure timely follow up until treatment is complete and children are free of cancer.
3) Counsel parents on the importance of continuing treatment when required.
4) Support children's education to help them lead a normal life.
and
5)Spread awareness on RB.
Iksha now covers treatment of 123 children and education of 11 of these children. Currently, Iksha is working in partnership with 6 hospitals at Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune and looking at expanding its reach.
We at Iksha believe that no child should ever lose eyesight or face death to this type of childhood cancer which has one of the best cure rates.
