Who is this fundraiser for?

This fundraiser supports women from rural and tribal communities across India, implemented by Kokan Kala Va Shikshan Vikas Sanstha (Kokan NGO India).

The initiative aims to help women become financially independent through skill-based livelihood training, enabling them to support their families and build a dignified future.

What is Silai School?

Silai School is Kokan NGO India’s tailoring and stitching training program under the Sustainable Development for Livelihood Initiative.

The program provides complete hands-on training, including:

• Taking measurements and understanding fabrics

• Drafting, cutting, and stitching garments

• Embroidery and garment finishing

• Alterations and fitting techniques

• Sewing machine operation and maintenance

Participants also receive personality development and confidence-building sessions, helping them become leaders in their communities.

Many trained women also gain the confidence to teach tailoring skills to other women, expanding the impact even further.

What happens after training?

After completing the training, each woman receives a sewing machine, enabling her to:

• Start a home-based tailoring business

• Earn a regular income to support her family

• Pay for children’s education and household needs

• Train other women in her community

This creates a multiplier effect, where one trained woman can help empower many others.

Program Impact So Far

Through the Silai School initiative, we have already:

• Trained 3,000+ women

• Distributed sewing machines for livelihood support

• Helped women build independent income sources

Many of these women are now living with greater confidence, stability, and dignity.
