Taking care of students, elderly, and the ill

1. This neighbourhood consists of poor families and the parents cannot afford to provide good education to the children and often get them admitted in government schools. These students are often not able to compete with others who receive better education facilities. To meet the challenge, Anandam provides free coaching between 5 PM to 7:30 P.M with 25 qualified teachers engaged on part time basis. This education centre was started with 7 students in the year 2010 and the present strength is 250. There is a considerable improvement in their standards and many of them score excellent marks. The annual expenditure for these services is about Rs. 32 Lakhs.

2. We are running a free home for taking care of the needs of destitute elders without any living children or any income. Started with 3 elders in a rented place in the year 2003, we are now taking care of 105 senior citizens in our complex of 2400 sq meters of covered space. The elders are provided with good vegetarian food, spacious living space (600 sq ft for 8 elders), medical requirements, recreation and spiritual needs, all free of cost. Facilities include a spacious prayer hall, library cum reading room, physiotherapy centre etc. The annual expenditure for these come about Rs. 36 Lakhs.

1. We teach our students keeping in mind the new advancements in the field of education. We train them up in computer skills. Talent developemen is also done, by providing music classes and through indoor games. Since the students come directly from their schools in the evening, they are provided with snacks and nutritious drinks. One set of uniform is also provided to them. Financial help upto a maximum of Rs 5000 per student per year is given to all the students.

2. The elderly are provided with comfortable cots with mattresses, 2 attached bath cum toilet for a room of 8 persons, weekly discourses and counselling from reputed organisations. We also try to bring out the innate talents in them, such as music, dance etc., and we are very proud to say that they are winning prizes ever year in competitions held for the elderly.

1. There has been a tremendous improvement in the marks scored by them. Students with good marks are enrolled free of cost in very good universities in Engineering, Arts and Science courses. Free hostel facility is also provided to some very poor students. For the other students, apart from helping the students to get admissions, the college fees is also provided by us.

2. The elders now lead a worry-free, comfortable life. All their medical needs are heeded to. Serious cases are admitted in a famous hospital, and all medical expenses are borne by us. At least 5 sets of new dresses are given every year. Festivals like Deepavali and Pongal are celebrated in great pomp, much to the enjoyment of the elders. Film personalities, eminent scholars and musicians are invited to perform for the elders.
