Talent carnival (Thiramai Thiruvizha)

Payir’s long term focus with the children is to create an enabling environment for each child to dream and to explore opportunities for themselves and the surrounding environment in a healthy, natural and ethical way.

In Alathur the government schools are not able to opportunities for children to explore talents in cultural events, extra-curricular science innovation projects, sports etc. The opportunities to participate in competitions and to interact with others will enhance their self-confidence and make for holistic individuals.

Payir plans to utilize the grant to

1. To create different platforms for children in Government schools to be able to express their inherent talents in sports/ cultural/ science/ innovations/ nature related skills

2. Identification and nurturing of talent amongst government school going children

The different initiatives planned during the school year are

1. Conducting of Workshops and Camps in promoting Arts & Sports in around 80 Primary, High and Higher secondary schools. These engagements will help sensitize the staff and children.

2. Conduct a festival of rising talents and creativity for these children including guidance to explore and expose their talents at different levels.

Volunteer Engagement

Payir would also like to explore opportunity to engage around 50 volunteers through letzchange.org as part of the team in conducting workshops, camps and festivals. Volunteers with specific expertise in the field of arts and sports will be extremely helpful. Volunteers help will also be needed to create poster materials for the events and to capture and publish different moments of the children to cherish.

Key beneficiaries are about 10,000 odd children spread across 90 odd schools in Aalthur block of Perambalur distirct (TN).

Expected Outcomes are to

1. Increase the space to express creativity among children in government schools

2. Reduce Gender Inequity and gaps in social differences towards opportunities presented to government school going children
