A quarter of young women in India are married off against their will, forced to drop out of school and abandon their dreams.

We recognised early on the need to highlight girls’ freedom of choice - that they can study how they want, marry (if at all) when and who they want, live how they want. That is at the crux of our work, and that is where you come in.

When you donate to Breakthrough, we work with families, boys, girls and communities to start making change possible. How? 

We have 2-year gender sensitisation programmes in government schools, with over 5 lakh children in 6th to 8th standard, where we work with them and the community to change mindsets. So that everyone around recognises girls’ right to choice and agency!

We have seen our work blossom on the ground: Our work in Uttar Pradesh has seen girls get married up to 2 years later, letting them finish schools and have the childhoods they were previously denied!
