Team India at the World Transplant Games 2023 at Perth, Australia

We have a group of talented and dedicated Indian athletes who have had an organ transplant. Because of the transplant and the care they must take afterwards, they can’t compete against mainstream athletes. Where do they go?

The World Transplant Games 

Established in 1978, the World Transplant Games Federation is a worldwide organisation with representation from more than 60 countries that celebrates successful transplantation and the gift of life through unique and inspiring events – namely the World Transplant Games.

In previous years, India has not had more than 2-4 athletes represent the country. However, for 2019, India went to the Games with a contingent of fourteen athletes. India’s 14-member team consisted of 11 organ recipients and 3 living organ donors. India's combined medal tally of 7 medals included 4 Golds and 3 Silvers. In 2023 we will build on this success.

But the costs of participation, training and travel are prohibitive for most athletes. We need your help to send the best team we have to the World Transplant Games 2023 in Perth, Australia.

ORGAN India, an initiative of the Parashar Foundation has been appointed the Team Managers for Team India at the World Transplant Games 2023 in Perth, Australia. We are already preparing to take the largest Indian contingent ever at the World Transplant Games, and get them the best training and coaching available  BUT WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!

India’s Organ Donation Rate is amongst the lowest in the world, largely due to a lack of awareness of organ donation, and myths surrounding life after transplant. Our participation in the Games will go a long way in raising awareness of organ donation in the hope that no Indian has to die from a lack of organs available for transplant.

 

We hope to create an impact in two ways.

1. to represent India and win medals thereby showing what is achievable by our athletes.
2. To raise awareness throughout the country on organ donation and transplant on the lives that can not only be saved but lived to the fullest. The people who can be saved if everyone pledges to donate their organs can live long fruitful lives and go on not only to become great athletes and live their lives but can go on to do great things.
