The Apprentice Project

Our goal is to inculcate socio-emotional skills among disadvantaged children from Indian government schools by teaching them a skill they are passionate to learn. The Apprentice Project, a project under Mentor Me Foundation has created a remote-learning program for children of daily wage earners whose family income <₹12,000/month. During the pandemic, we supported 10,000+ children with our activity videos and plans to help them learn from home in the event of school closures.

• 32% of children attending Indian government schools drop out of school because they do not think education is necessary.
• Research says that - ​47% of Indian graduates are unemployable​ purely due to lack of 21st-century skills (National Employability Report)

Low-income schools lack the resources and exposure to provide a holistic education for students to succeed in the 21st century. This ​skill & exposure gap leads to the low-income section of society being stuck in the cycle of poverty forever.

To assist our children to learn remotely, we have developed a Mobile-based Assisted Self-Learning program that has 2 aspects: 

• Mobile-based Self-learning based activity videos and plans​ shared with children
• Assistance to Self-learn​ - Children receive activity plans and are assisted by our volunteer mentors for course completion

During the pandemic we worked with over 10,000+ children through our curriculum and activity plans.

The course of all the programs is made to support disadvantaged children who have faced extreme adversity in the COVID-19 crisis. In all our courses, we have focussed on creativity and problem solving as the tools for the emotional wellbeing of the children and we have used skill builder indicators for measurable outcomes.

The current program that TAP is implementing is designed to support children to be socially connected with their peers and also cope with the current situation that has caused trauma during this crisis.

IMPACT MEASUREMENT

TAP measures impact in the form of qualitative and quantitative parameters covering:

• Program reach (number of beneficiaries)

• Engagement of Key Stakeholders (number of hours spent by the children and the parent)

• Socio-emotional development (measured via skill builder rubric for student learning level and growth in understanding and engagement)

• Program Satisfaction via Net Promoter Score
