The Rag Pickers Upliftment Drive - (The backbone of India's Recycling Sector - Making India the leaders in the world in the field of Recycling)

Rag Pickers are the backbone of India's Recycling Sector - Making India the leader in the world in the field of Recycling). We take this initiative to bring about a change in their lives.

They are the most ignored segment in the Recycling Value Chain and we are trying to work to uplift their Lives. Through our efforts in the past 2.5 years, the government of India for the first time have recognised the importance of the unorganised sector in the recycling value chain.

They work effortlessly to collect all the recyclable waste and put it into the recycling value chain, but they are also the most ignored people in India. There are about ~5 million Rag Pickers all over India who need urgent attention to improve their lives. The issues faced by them are highlighted below:

• There are times when these unsung heroes don’t get adequate food, and water if their collections are not enough.

• There mainly illiterate and lack a basic level of education and understanding

• They have various health issues owing to malnutrition

• They don’t get the right value for the waste they collect because of the lack of awareness

• They don’t have proper clothes to wear

• At times they don’t get access to proper health care

We Recycle India Foundation through our efforts want to work in uplifting the lives of these unsung heroes (The rag pickers) in India. Through our efforts, we have made sure that the government recognises their importance and contribution to the recycling value chain.

We are running various programs to help bring about a change in the lives of the rag pickers in India. We are running programs in some parts of India and we want to scale it up to Pan India. Some of them are highlighted below:

·      We have regular food distribution drives in some areas in India basis so that no stomach goes empty in India.

·      We have Regular education drives where we teach basics to the rag pickers and help them. We also help them understand the importance of education and convince them to enrol their children in local schools.

·      We have regular tuitions for the children of rag pickers so they can do well in school and make their future. They are the future of the country and help in leading India into the next phase of development.

·      We have free milk and biscuit distribution drives so that malnutrition can be avoided.

·      We have free clothes and blanket distribution drives so that they can take care of during the rainy seasons and winter seasons.

·      We run various awareness sessions for the rag pickers where they are educated about the right value of the waste they collect. This helps them in getting the right value for their waste.

·      We also distribute free equipment which aids them in better waste collection

·      We also hold regular medical camps for their wellbeing.

There are about ~5 Million Rag Pickers in India and they are the most ignored segment of society. Through our programs, we aim to bring about a change in their lives.

Through our programs, we have reached about 20,000 Rag Pickers and have been able to bring about a major change in their lives.

We aim to uplift their lives so that all their basic needs are taken care of.

In our very recent project help in Jharkhand – the daughter of a rag picker got more than 90% in her class 12 Exams. Our organisation convinced the rag pickers to send their children to school and educate their girl child.

In our projects, we aim to bring about a major change in the perception of the rag pickers in India and bring them on par with Society so that they and their future generation and not looked down upon and they can stand at par with the society.
