Godavari Nilayam was established in 2006, in Polavaram, a village situated in West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad, India. The Nilayam provides a safe spot for destitute seniors of the neighbouring village and tribal areas with shelter, three meals a day, health, hygiene and entertainment. As part of social service activities, the Nilayam engages a tuition teacher to provide free tuition and music lessons to government school children. The organisation also undertakes many projects such as clean drives and plantation drives. It played a pivotal role in bringing in drinking water into the village.The organisation has the capacity to provide beds for 75 residents, and at present there are 35 living at the Aashram. The daily operations are supervised by an office administrator, an attendant, a cook and a nurse. The hospital across the street takes care of any medical requirement, and an ambulance is also available. The nearest town has a multi speciality hospital, and they have agreed to provide free regular health checkups including vision. BP and Sugar medicines are provided free of cost.A monthly expense of close to 1.5 lakhs is incurred for the operation of the old age home. It is a dedicated home for the old destitute people belonging to tribal communities and depressed classes to provide food, shelter and medical care in Polavaram Mandal. Godavari Nilayam is primarily run by volunteers, who are mostly past or current residents of Polavaram with a deep sense of attachment to their village.
