Why winter becomes a silent threat

For the abandoned elderly mothers of Vrindavan, winter is the harshest and most unforgiving time of the year. Many of them live on open streets, cramped alley corners, broken verandas, or under flimsy tin sheds that provide no insulation from the cold.

Most survive on almost nothing, often skipping meals because they simply don’t have the means to buy food. Without warm clothes, their fragile bodies struggle to withstand the severe temperature drops. Respiratory infections, joint pain, and chronic illnesses become far more debilitating during winter and for many, even a single cold night can pose a serious threat to their lives.

Our on-ground partner, Pure Devotion Foundation, has been tirelessly serving and caring for abandoned widow mothers across Vrindavan. Their team reaches vulnerable elderly women, ensuring they receive essential winter protection items such as:

Warm woollen blankets

Thick shawls and thermal warmers

Sweaters and layered clothing

Gloves, socks, caps, and other winter essentials

Every distribution is done personally and directly. Volunteers identify mothers in urgent need, check on their wellbeing, and provide them with immediate relief. For many of these mothers, receiving a warm blanket or a shawl is not just comfort, it is survival.
