Together, Towards Enabling Children to Thrive with Their Families

In Kolhapur, Maharashtra, Sumit (name changed), at the tender age of 10, found himself admitted to a Child Care Institution (CCI). The reason: his parents' separation. His mother, however, continued to be there in his life despite the distance, visiting the CCI every month without fail to see him.

As years passed, driven by the longing to be with her son, Sumit’s mother embarked on a journey of her own; she pursued a nursing course and thereafter worked at two hospitals. Along the way, she found love again and remarried.

At the CCI, the team - inspired by the training provided by Miracle Foundation India on the importance of family-based care for children - initiated conversations aimed towards reuniting Sumit with his mother and stepfather. Subsequently, with guidance from the District Child Protection Unit, the team worked tirelessly to transition Sumit back into the family. After all, that’s where children thrive best! 

And after five years, Sumit was finally HOME! The village welcomed him warmly, and his family and school together became the launchpad to help him reach his full potential.

Today, his journey stands as a powerful testament to a mother's love - completely unconditional and resolute! It also underscores the potential of collaborative efforts towards enabling positive change. The team continues to support Sumit and his family, ensuring their well-being.
