Transformational Education for underprivileged children from Low-Income Communities

“ASER” states that India’s literacy rate is about 74% - leaving a quarter of the population without basic reading and writing skills. In nearly 60% of schools, there are less than two teachers to teach Classes I to V. A meagre 34.7% of Class VI could perform basic arithmetic calculations like subtraction and division. A dismal one out of four children were clearing Class VIII without acquiring fundamental reading skills. Only 40% of India’s youth is employable. 

Bhumi believes that every under-privileged child deserves quality education. Thus, Bhumi’s transformational education programme is delivered by change-facilitators for the underprivileged children at shelter homes, community centres and low-income schools to bridge the lack of foundational literacy/numeracy skills, STEAM education and minimise rote learning to encourage holistic development, contributing to enhancing 21st century skills such as critical and cognitive thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, problem solving, ethics, social responsibility, and digital literacy that advocates and equips the underserved children to thrive in today’s world.  

We envision our 25,000 beneficiaries that are benefited through the programme with increased opportunities for college and future employment which contributes to their financial and social stability thus, leading to an enhancement in the quality of their life by uplifting them from the vicious cycle of poverty through educational equity and quality education. To date, we have impacted 1,26,545 children across Bhumi’s educational programmes and we aim to impact 1,00,000 such deserving children by 2023.
