Transforming Anganwadis-Smart and Sustainable Anganwadi Centers for Better Early Education

In Nagpur district, there are 2,212 Anganwadi Centers catering to approximately 65,000 children. Despite their significance in early childhood development, a large number of these centers lack adequate infrastructure and basic facilities.

• Around 500 centers require urgent special repairs due to dilapidated conditions.

• 600 centers operate in rented spaces, many of which lack basic necessities such as washrooms and safe drinking water facilities.

• Research shows that 90% of a child’s cognitive development occurs before the age of six, highlighting the importance of well-equipped early learning environments.

The lack of child-friendly spaces in Anganwadi Centers negatively impacts children's health, hygiene, and educational engagement. Addressing these infrastructural gaps is critical for ensuring that children receive the best possible start in life.

Mission:

To create safe, child-friendly, and well-equipped learning environments in Anganwadi Centers by upgrading infrastructure and essential facilities, thereby fostering early childhood development and holistic growth.

Goal:

To repair and upgrade 500 Anganwadi Centers in Nagpur district, ensuring they are adequately equipped to support early childhood care, education, and overall well-being.

Objectives:

1. Infrastructure Enhancement: Conduct necessary repairs to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for children.

2. Sanitation & Hygiene: Provide essential facilities such as functional washrooms and safe drinking water.

3. Child-Centric Learning Spaces: Install educational murals, 3D wallpapers, and informative wall paintings to make learning more engaging.

4. Facility Improvement: Provide ceiling fans, library racks, green boards, and grain storage boxes to enhance functionality.

5. Capacity Building: Empower Anganwadi workers with improved infrastructure and resources to enhance service delivery.

6. Community Engagement: Encourage local participation in maintaining and sustaining the improved centers.
