Transgender Empowerment Program

Transgender are one of the most underrated groups in society. With over 5 lakh Transgender in India alone (as per the 2011 census), the numbers have all the more increased. And Tamil Nadu alone accounts for over 30,000 Transgender, who are currently living in inhumane conditions.

Apart from the physical torture, trauma, abuse, cruelty and violence they face, this community is also forbidden in every sphere of life such as schools/colleges, health care sectors, employment sectors, social schemes, among others.

Their freedom to express, their right to vote, their right to lead a dignified life have all been denied and are thoroughly undervalued. And with no means for a stable income, they are often forced into prostitution and begging.

This heartfelt condition is very much visible in a country like India. Though the situation has improved for some of them, with govts help, this is not the case everywhere. And there are many Transgender individuals who can come out of isolation, be in respectable positions, and do wonders for the nation. We kindly request your help and support for that.

Through the Transgender Empowerment Program, we are planning to cover the entire state of Tamil Nadu, India. And in the initial stage, we would cover over 200 individuals, who have been identified by our Foundation, thereby increasing our reach gradually.

Our primary focus would be to provide proper training for skill development, skill up-gradation, and entrepreneurship, which would highly improve their chance of getting better employment throughout India. And for people who wish to start a business or are already in business, we would be supporting them through infrastructure and investment support. We will also be supporting them for Critical Health Care, Group Insurance cover. And will provide Scholarships to those who wish to pursue higher education

There will also be community awareness campaigns that will be organized periodically. And for those who are in distress; advice, counselling, and legal support will be provided as well. There are many Transgender who could excel in various fields, who we may not be aware of. And given the right opportunity and tools for support, this community can outshine others in every aspect.

Transgender are one of the most discriminated and high-risk groups in India, and they need our support and acceptance like everyone else. They need to come out of isolation, lead a dignified life, a respectable life. And to make that happen, we are ready to do everything possible from our end.

And through this challenging initiative, we are confident about the changes that can be brought, and the differences that can be created. Our beneficiaries would be mostly students who are pursuing school/college education, those who are in business or are involved in business, those who wish to get employed at govt. and private sectors, those who are in fine arts such as dance, drama, those who are preparing for competitive exams among others.

And as stated, for people involved in business or are doing business, we would help them with infrastructure and investment support for setting up of small Tiffin centres, DTP centres, cattle rearing, tailoring centres etc. as opted by them. And through community awareness campaigns which we are planning to organize at regular intervals, we can better educate them about their rights, and about leading a sustainable livelihood.
