In the narrow lanes of urban slums and nearby villages of Bhopal live thousands of women who never got the chance to go to school.
They grew up early…
married early…
became mothers early…
But never learned to write their own name.
Today many of them depend on others to:
They feel ashamed to put a thumbprint where a signature should be.
Yet inside them lives a silent dream —
“Kaash hum bhi padh paate…”
Adon Fellowship Charitable Society started small community learning circles where women gather after finishing household work. Sitting on the floor, holding a slate and notebook for the first time in their lives, they slowly begin their journey from illiteracy to confidence.
We have already seen transformation:
A mother reading her child’s homework.
A woman signing her bank document proudly.
A grandmother writing her name for the first time at 40+ age.
This is not just education.
This is dignity restored.
Project Udaan aims to give wings to 150 underprivileged women through basic literacy, numeracy and life-skill education.
Your support can turn hesitation into confidence… and silence into self-respect.
For most of her life, Meena never wrote her name.
Whenever a form came in front of her — bank papers, hospital slips, school documents — she quietly pressed her thumb impression. She would wait for someone else to read, explain, and decide for her.
She is a mother, a homemaker, and the backbone of her family.
Yet she felt like a child whenever paperwork appeared.
Her children would ask,
"Mummy, homework dekh lo…"
And she would smile… but change the topic.
Not because she didn’t care.
Because she couldn’t read.
When Project Udaan classes started in her community, Meena first refused to come.
She said,
"Ab iss umar mein kya padhai karungi?"
(What will I study at this age?)
But slowly she gathered courage and sat down on the floor with a slate in her hand — nervous, hesitant, almost embarrassed.
The first day she held a pencil, her hands trembled.
She struggled to draw even a single straight line.
But she didn’t give up.
Day after day she came back after finishing household chores… cooking… caring for children… managing the home.
One evening, during practice, she finally wrote:
“मीना”
She stared at it silently.
Then she smiled.
Then she laughed.
Then she cried.
For the first time in her life — she did not need anyone to sign for her.
Now Meena:
Her children proudly say,
"Hamari mummy school jaati hai."
And Meena says,
"Ab mujhe darr nahi lagta."
(Now I am not afraid anymore.)
There are hundreds of women like Meena — intelligent, hardworking, capable — but stopped by one barrier: illiteracy.
With your support, Project Udaan helps them move from thumbprint to signature…
from dependence to dignity.
You are not just funding education.
You are restoring confidence.
