Uninterrupted Learning During The Pandemic

COVID-19 has had adverse consequences on children's education across the world due to closure of schools and lack of access to online learning. It is only now that we are seeing schools reopen, albeit in a staggered manner. As children are making their transition into regular schooling, we notice that there are huge learning losses that children have suffered. 

Over the last 1.5 years, we have made inroads in ensuring every child in our care is reached in terms of access to uninterrupted education. Over the last several months, we have taken steps to provide learning material to our children, through both online and offline means.

With schools slowly opening, there is an urgent need to focus on their Foundational Learning as they are at risk of getting disconnected from formal education permanently. 

Since 2003, Makkala Jagriti has been committed to empowering children and youth from marginalized communities across Karnataka. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, the effects on access to education were unprecedented. Schools were immediately shut, and in many cases, still are. We have been providing holistic support to children and their families by way of thoughtfully-designed Learning Kits for learning at home and back in school focused on their holistic development and Foundational learning. 

Here’s what a kit contains:

1)  Workbooks, stationery, craft supplies, and so on

2)  A daily plan that includes opportunities for parent-child engagement

3)  Tracking progress of both children and parents in the learning activities

4)  Lessons that promote creativity, basic literacy, emotional and physical well-being

5)  Learning through technology – Videos shared through WhatsApp

6)  Bridge Course material for Foundational Learning

Our focus is on the well-being of children, welcoming them back to school and focus on bridging their learning gaps in foundational learning.
