Urgent: As the mercury hits 49 degrees, those affected by the severe heatwave need your help

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert as heatwave continues to scorch North India. Severe temperatures and hot winds grip Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh, with no immediate relief in sight.

Several deaths have already taken place.  The most affected are daily wage earners like roadside vendors, waste collectors, and labourers, who toil outdoors during peak heat hours.

NGOs working on ground to bring relief

Our NGOs on the ground like ActionAid Association are responding to this crisis. For instance, cooling and water distribution stations are being set up at bus stands, marketplaces, and at labour stalls to benefit workers as well as consumers who are outdoors during the peak heat hours. Supplements such as ORS are being offered for free along with clean drinking water to reduce the risk of heat-related health hazards. 

People are also being reached out to beyond cities and towns. 

Why we need your help

We urgently need your support to distribute heat protection kits containing a cotton cloth, reusable water bottle, and energy packet to those most in need. Additionally, umbrella shades will be installed in strategic locations.
