Urgent!! Help the flood-affected people of Bihar

Bihar is in the grip of one of its worst floods in a decade. Nearly 48 lakh people across 15 districts including Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Madhepura and Araria. People are living through inundated homes, submerged fields and cut-off villages. Around 575 gram panchayats across 87 blocks are under water.

Ravaging floods

In Bhagalpur, the Ganga river is flowing nearly two metres above the danger mark. The Kosi, Gandak, Burhi Gandak, Punpun, Bagmati and Ghaghra are all swollen past their danger levels too, and embankment breaches in Bhagalpur have let floodwaters pour into new areas. With more rain forecast, thousands of families who have already lost their homes, food stocks and livelihoods are bracing for the water to rise further.

Relief camps are stretched thin, and community kitchens can't keep pace with the need. Families are sheltering on rooftops, embankments and roadsides — with nothing but what they could carry.

ActionAid’s action on the ground

Give.do has partnered with ActionAid Association, which has decades of on-ground experience in disaster response across Bihar, to reach the worst-affected families with life-saving relief. Here's exactly what your donation will fund:

₹1,530 — a Ration Kit, feeding a family for weeks with essentials like rice, dal, oil, salt and spices, when floodwaters have wiped out food stocks and cut off access to markets.

₹765 — a Hygiene Kit, with soap, sanitary products, disinfectant and basic medicines, to prevent the disease outbreaks that follow floods when clean water and sanitation collapse.

₹1,500 — a Shelter Kit, including tarpaulin sheets and essentials to help a family build temporary shelter after losing their home to the water.

Every one of these kits goes directly to a family that has lost almost everything in the last few days. ActionAid's teams are already on the ground in the worst-hit districts, and are scaling up to reach more villages as the water spreads — but they need funds to do it fast.

Bihar doesn't need sympathy. It needs food, clean water and shelter.
