VigyanShaala STEM Fellowship for rural youth

STEM is abbreviation for Science, Technology , Engineering and Mathematics disciplines. A strong foundation in STEM is essential for equipping youth with the quality to solve a range of complex problems. Problem solvers from a range of backgrounds with quality hands-on exposure in STEM and skills are imperative to shape development for India's last mile. Learning by doing or hands-on experiential learning is one of the most efficient ways to shape STEM skills for young students. In-fact, in India, as many as 6 out of 10 (60%) colleges are located in rural areas with an acute shortage of infrastructure and human resources. A rural student receives less than 5 opportunities/year to experience practical hands-on learning in STEM through high school to graduation. With the ongoing pandemic, these challenges are exacerbated for the rural students both colleges and schools. VigyanShaala is Building Innovative Ecosystems in partnership with rural colleges and schools to bridge this learning divide.

At VigyanShaala, we are democratising opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) by closing the access, attainability and quality gap in STEM education. Through our unique data drive approach to identify key barriers, cross age peer-mentoring and nurturing local undergraduates as community role models we are bridging the learning divide for rural students. In a year, STEM Fellow receives 24 Mentoring sessions from Vigyanshaala’s vetted global pool of professionals, 150 hours of training, undertakes 2 research projects and reaches 100+ school students. This comprehensive experience builds STEM skills, independent creative thinking, extensive professional development and community leadership. Our STEM fellow/s acts as local role model/s reaching schools catering to extremely marginalised communities. Hence, attaining scale while remaining sensitive to the local variables. Through STEM fellows, each school will receive ~10 outreach sessions, assistance in learning and support from VigyanShaala in identifying young talent and nurturing early on.
