Village Community Centre

Village Mahrora in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand is home to about 500 families with a population of around 1500. There are 2 similar-sized villages around it. However, the villagers do not have road connectivity or any medical facilities nearby. Plus there is the issue of migration of youth to the cities in search of work but not being qualified for it.

We have received permission from the District Magistrate of Nainital, Mr Dhiraj Garbiyal, for using the government land for opening a community centre for the 3 villages. The building needs to be built completely from start including infrastructure like electricity and water. Thereafter, a computer room with 3 computers is to be set up. The training programme will be run by the Art of Living centre however full infrastructure needs to be provisioned first.

The Nainital rotary club and Red Cross will help with first aid training however, all supplies and set-up need to be done first, along with provision for a doctor.

A stitching and crafts centre needs to be set up for the women who have been trained to stitch cloth bags which then go to the city shops.

And finally, a library and weekend school were set up for the children.

The village community centre will impact 4000 people spread across 3 villages. The centre will also become a first aid centre for the villages which will help in addressing basic health issues. With the setting up of computer centre and training programme, local youth will be more employable. The library would become the public library for all the people of the 3 villages.
