Water Conservation and Sanitation in Lohara Taluka of District Osmanabad

Lohara is a Taluka in Osmanabad district. It was hit by a massive earthquake in the year 1993. In Lohara, there are 48

villages. The average rainfall in this area is between 400-500 mm every year. One river flows through this Taluka with a population of 1,70,000. A village called Toramba (Harali) is 16 km away from Lohara and 60 km away from Osmanabad. The population of this village is 3500 (Male 1800 & female 1700). The Average rainfall in this village

is moderate, but due because of it being a straight region, water preservation is easy here. Although, a better water management system is needed here to prevent droughts in this village. The sanitation facilities in this village are poor too. Every house in the village has a toilet but only 40-50% of the people use them. Drainage lines were only made in 1993 after the earthquake. Since then, the drainage lines have not been maintained.
