Wedding Fundraiser by Regis Lanneau and Shubhangi -- Supporting the construction of classroom at Deepalaya School, Gusbethi, Haryana

Thank you for coming to our wedding. We know that it involved long flights and stepping out of comfort zones for many of you and we are grateful that you are here! Some of you asked us for wedding gift suggestions and we thought it best to use this gathering (very large from French standards and a small one for the Indians!) to make an impact on a cause we are both passionate about, involved in and have spent large parts of our classroom lectures on which is education.

We researched various NGOs before selecting Deepalaya to ensure that it is not just another in the ‘business of charity’. We met the people and exchanged with them on their work in the field of education, their experience and their most urgent needs before selecting this particular project. We believe that, with your help, we can make a tangible and lasting impact in the lives of the children of one of the poorest districts in India by helping construct and furnish one of their classrooms. We hope you will consider donating to the project in place of a wedding gift. After all, if this celebration stands for anything (or so we hope), it is that great things can happen if we try to bridge gaps – be they social, economic, cultural or even religious and racial!

Shubhangi and Regis

Deepalaya School, Gusbethi is located in the most backward district of India and it caters to the needs of one of the poorest sections of society. The construction of one classroom will cost about Rs.1.2 million (€15000/ $17000). One can donate any amount up to Rs. 1.2 million on this page. The moment you donate, say, Rs 100,000 there will be an immediate deduction of Rs. 100,000 from Rs.1.2 million. Likewise, when the whole amount is received there will be no amount mentioned on the page.

Situated in a remote region of Haryana, Mewat has not advanced in literacy rates as fast as its neighbouring metropolitan counterparts of Gurgaon and Delhi. Our aim has been to enable each child to develop independence, confidence and self-reliance, as well as inculcate within them sensitiveness of perception, receptiveness to new ideas and imaginative sympathy with the experiences of others as they are exposed to new bodies of knowledge and fresh ideas.

School facilities and procedures

• Classes from LKG to class Xth
• 24 classrooms with a library and a computer room
• Recognised with Haryana Board of School Education. HBSE course is followed. The coursework is divided into 10 class tests, 4 unit tests and 2 sets of exams
• Overall personality development through various extra-curricular activities, sports education
• Active Baal Sabha to inculcate a sense of responsibility amongst children and to hone their inner strengths.
• 4 student House based system to encourage leadership and teamwork

Our students work untiringly to achieve new laurels for both themselves, and the school. Some notable recent achievements include:

• Enrollment has increased to 1208 children as on 31.03.2019, with 712 boys and 496 girls
• Procuring first position in the block level Lado Swabhiman competitions.
• Procured third position at district level football competitions. Three of our students were selected for the state team.
• DSG stood first in district level competitions of Art and craft held at Nuh headquarters in the month of October. 23 students participated in the competitions.
• DSG stood first in district level competitions of Art and craft organised by Navodit Kids carnival held in the month of November. 25 students participated in the competitions.
• Students participated in the nation painting competitions and 40 students participated. One of the participants was selected as the best painter.
• 100 students participated in the Namo Gange trust painting competitions.

Construction of one classroom shall support the education of 40 new children in the most backward areas of the country on an immediate basis. Your contribution can help us in making this dream successful. The students sitting in the class will have a sense of dignity while sitting on desks and furniture bought from this fundraiser.

Not only this, this classroom shall help the future generations as it is a part of the infrastructural project of Deepalaya, spread of 90000 sq. ft in three floors. The entire building shall support the education of 3000 children residing in the nearby 84 villages of Tavru block.
