Xokaah- Relief for the Flood Affected people of Assam

Flood is a yearly experience for people of Assam. Every year a great loss occurs to the people be it life or property. The situation is aggravated by lack of pre-flood preparedness. Also post flood relief measures are often limited due to insufficient funds. Floods are natural phenomenon that can't be stopped; hence preparedness and post flood damage mitigation are of utmost importance in the ground.

Earthful Foundation has been actively involved in flood relief activities for last few years under Project "Xokaah". Xokaah, an Assamese word, means relief. We have been distributing reusable kits with basic essentials as pre-flood preparedness measure to few flood prone villages of Assam. We have installed solar lights in those villages to cope with flood water at night. We have distributed ration, drinking water, clothes, etc. as post-flood relief measures. After floods we will distribute post-flood kit which contains essentials like phenyl, bleaching powder, mosquito net, etc. and organize health camp to stop spreading of diseases. In this way we aim to provide relief in the unfortunate calamity.

Besides providing temporary relief, our initiatives aim to provide sustainable solutions to the people during flood. The emergency kits we distribute, keep them aware and ready before the arrival of the flood. During floods, we work at the forefront to provide them with their basic necessities. After flood, we will help them rebuild the damaged Infrastructures as per our capabilities. In this way we hold hands at the grass root level and provide them Xokaah (Relief) in the disaster.
