“They insert a candle in the vagina, fingers are inserted (in the vagina) and tortured, and if children don’t relent even then, they put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. “I used to be sexually abused repeatedly, and when I screamed in pain, they hit and threatened me with more violence,” says Priya (name changed), a rescued child sex worker. Priya was abducted by traffickers and sold into a red-light area house before she was rescued by Guria led by Manju. For over two decades, Manju has been rescuing young girls forced into prostitution across the country. She has been shaken to the core seeing some of the most horrifying crimes that young girls have to undergo. “You can’t imagine the state of girls forced into sex work. The girls are given electric shocks and burnt with cigarette butts just to get kicks out of it. And if they get pregnant, the "owners" kick them repeatedly in the womb so that the child inside dies…If you want to see hell, it is here on this planet where young girls are sexually abused,” says Manju.Manju needs your help to rescue more young girls from forced prostitution and reunite them with their families. Donate now.Guria’s work over the yearsBased out of Varanasi, inarguably the holiest place in India, Manju and her organisation Guria, fights the sexual exploitation of girls, especially minors, by taking on the traffickers head-on, and rescuing and rehabilitating them.Started in 1993, Guria has rescued over 5500 persons from slavery, sex trafficking, and child prostitution so far. It has also been instrumental in shutting down hundreds of places that housed trafficked girls and putting scores of traffickers out of business and in jail.For instance, in 2005, a Guria-led rescue operation in Varanasi's red-light area led to the freeing of 49 women and girls, including minors. Many of them were kept against their will. Some of the traffickers were also arrested and tried. Since then, Guria has rescued thousands of young girls.Manju and her husband, Ajeet Singh began rescuing girls from Varanasi’s red-light areas and then working to stop the sex-trafficking of young girls within Uttar Pradesh and outside. The organisation’s aim is to eliminate the sex trafficking of women, especially minor girls, end second-generation prostitution and child prostitution, and rehabilitate women and girls who are rescued from the trade. Manju has faced violent backlash from the traffickers and other vested interests, but it has not deterred her from carrying on rescuing young girls from trafficking. Rescue and rehabilitationBesides rescuing girls trafficked for sex, mostly from low-income families, from across the country, Guria fights on their behalf in courts and also provides education, food, vocational training, and other facilities until they are united with their families. But because of a lack of funds, Guria is finding it difficult to rescue more girls and also take care of them once they are away from the clutches of the traffickers. Take the case of Sameena (name changed), who was abducted from Uttar Pradesh all the way to Telangana. Guria took it upon itself to rescue the girl with the help of its own work and also the authorities. After months of rehabilitation, Sameena went back to her family and even completed her education. This is an unprecedented situation where small farm holders, daily wagers, and landless labours are among the most vulnerable sections, who have been hit very badly. They are short on cash, savings, and social security and get very little financial support from their own community members. 55% of the rural income is from the non-agriculture sector, chiefly from the income of seasonal migration, explains the dependency of rural economy on remittances from the migration income. An economic lockdown like this where the markets were closed, purchase and sale of material was absent and no transportation to support business has literally curbed all the options of livelihoods even for their meagre sustenance. The situation is further worsened with reverse migration putting pressure on limited livelihood resources in rural areas. In our working areas of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand farmers had a difficult time during the Khariff season of 2019-20 because of untimely monsoon and almost 20-25% of small farmers either had a partial or complete crop loss. The already stressed agriculture sector is going to experience a huge load of disguised unemployment, credit crunch and market disruption and associated social issues in coming days with lasting impact.  
 We propose multiple strategies to provide livelihood security to marginal farmers and Rural Households, amidst complex challenges unfolded by COVID 19.<ol><li>Extending direct support to very poor farming families with Seeds and agriculture inputs free of cost. It is anticipated that there are about 15-20% of the farming families with a very small landholding and dependent significantly on farm wage labour, will face extreme hardship in arranging agriculture inputs for Khariff as well as forthcoming Rabi crops.</li><li>Creating Farm Livelihood Rehabilitation Fund to hedge the risk of farmers: 37 FPOs promoted by ASA will undertake procurement on fair price to avoid distress sale of farm produce. Fund will provide cushion of about 10% at average value of Rs. 20000/- per farmer in a crop season. It will be used as revolving fund to leverage market resources along with market risk coverage.</li><li>Providing Interest subvention and capacity building support to Rural Women Entrepreneur from SHGs supported by ASA for taking up enterprises and learning digital transactions to be future ready for similar kind of challenges.</li></ol> 
 The project will directly benefit about 25000 Rural Households (more than 100000 Persons) in a period of one year in following manner.<ol><li>Agri-input support to marginal families will provide Food and Nutrition security for 10,000 Households with availability of staple, pulses and vegetable without any financial cost along with cash surpluses with extra produces. Availability of Food stock at local level would also reduce expenditure of villagers at sale on fair prices.</li><li>Risk Hedging Revolving Fund for Marginal Farmer will directly support 1500 Farming Households in each harvest season in a year for procurement of commodities through FPOs on fair price in sustainable manner leading to reduction of incidences of distress sales.</li><li>There will be increase in income of Households by promotion of 3000 Women Enterprises with supplementary means of livelihoods to take care of addition financial burden of families. Developing cadre of digitally literate women at village level, who can become torch-bearer of Technology based financial inclusion with credit linkages from mainstream or alternative financial institutions.</li></ol>
