I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. Beejotsav, the National Seed Festival is taking place at a time when the level of farmers' distress is at peak. The farmers hardly have any freedom when it comes to sowing indigenous seeds and taking up new farming practices, which ultimately leads to the use of genetically modified(GMO) seeds and other carcinogenic inputs in the form of pesticides and weedicides. The ever-increasing use of all these inorganic inputs is not only putting the health of everyone at risk but is also leaving farmers in debt with no access to indigenous seeds. Also, the gap between consumer and farmers is increasing day by day leading to complete negligence towards the farming and related socioeconomic issues.We believe that safe, chemical-free food and healthy biodiversity is the right of every citizen. However, there are forces working to take away land, seed, and government support from small farmers and pave the way for corporate-controlled, chemical, and mechanized agriculture. Our food systems have been affected in numerous ways, leading to different chronic health problems. It is at such a critical juncture that this Beejotsav is being proposed. 
 Amhi Amchya Arogyasathi has been hosting the seed festival since the last 7 years. ‘Beejotsav’ is an attempt to directly connect the consumers and producers, to reduce the exploitation in the value chain. Beejotsav is connected to various platforms such as ASHA, BBSM, and other NGOs which work towards conservation of indigenous seeds, organic farming, and safe food. The Beejotsav will focus on ecological agriculture, free trade and agricultural livelihood, women farmers’ rights, food safety and hazardous agri-technologies like pesticides, fertilizers and Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs); seed sovereignty and diversity, land rights, economic policies impacting Indian agriculture, Adivasi agriculture, climate change, and consumer support/empowerment, etc. The sessions would mainly center on what an alternative policy and action course should be, and also on ongoing work on these issues and advocacy agendas for the future. The Beejotsav will have parallel sessions to meet its objectives, in addition to a biodiversity festival, food festival, exhibition, practical demonstrations, public lectures, and cultural programmes. The effort would be made to make discussions interactive and participatory. 
 This Beejotsav will not only be a national seed festival for mutual learning, sharing and collective planning, but also an occasion to reach out to various networks, alliances, and people’s movements to extend solidarity and draw from their expertise and experience. It will make us more aware of the very food we are eating. It will help strengthen the work of seed savers, organic farmers and people working in the domain of sustainability. The Beejotsav will initiate the dialogue and network of seed savers, farmers and people working in various domains. Probable outcomes are a good exchange of knowledge and information about various policy developments impacting farmers, exchange of indigenous seeds, a database of indigenous seed savers, public awareness through a seed festival and exhibition-cum-sale of organic food and sustainable lifestyle products.

Beejotsav 2022- National Seed Festival

Since pandemic, schools organizing online classes but it were no relevance in absence of technological equipment; network connectivity and lack of money to recharge those families have a mobile. Teachers involved in awareness and tracking of patience in villages had no time/willingness to interact with children. Students moved from last year class to next class without studies. During strict lockdown students had no books for study nor were any mentor to guide them.Survey was conducted in 2 villages (Salhe &amp; Padiyaljob) of Korchi block, Gadchiroli district. Both villages are tribal populated. In academic year 2020-21, 39 children were enrolled in primary schools of both villages. So parents are very anxious about the future of their children because in survey identified the problems of education situation.Ø Mainstream education curriculum and textbooks has no cultural relevance with the tribal community. Ø Medium Marathi of teaching, children are facing difficulties to understand and learn it. Ø Absence of community involvement or mechanism in education system to introduce their upcoming generation towards their culture, resource politics, history etc. Ø Need of space discussion and debate around social issues, wider exposure, lead to independent perspectives building, gaining soft skills confidence, articulation and leadership 
 An important aspect is Gond culture, traditional system and education transmission of knowledge in generation and between generations – the system of the Gotul. It was a unique system of learning and transform of traditional wisdom, culture, knowledge and worldviews.The project will be implemented in 5 villages of Korchi block of Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra. These community forest rights recognized villages are largely tribal populated having dependence over forest and agriculture for their livelihood. Gramsabha will pass resolution to implement the project on education.150 School going children for primary and secondary school and youth will be directly involved in the learning process. We need to let them explore many more avenues while drawing and painting provide rich canvas for expression like music, art, games etc. It will create balance between existing curriculums of school and add additional aspects of culture, home language, traditions, songs, beliefs, resource-based knowledge etcThe project activities are Open Jeevan Shala (Gotul) Capacity building of School Management Committees &amp; Gramsabha, Awareness among parents, Curriculum Design, Capacity building of volunteer’s teachers, establish Community Library etcThe local governance will be monitoring and mentoring along with the help of school Management Committee, Gramsabha members and organization level.  
 Ø Number of children will have improved the learning capacity in language and mathematicsØ Number of villages will have zero dropout in primary and secondary schoolØ A mix curriculum will be developed based on existing school curriculum and relevance to tribal culture and resource governanceØ Number of Volunteer teacher will have strengthened knowledge and pedagogyØ Increase the participation of `Gramsabha, School management committee and parents in that education &amp; learning process.Ø Increased with changing time, especially in order to stop unauthorized and commercial misuse of such knowledge.
