Traffickers beat them with rods, burn them, and mutilate their private parts just to break them. The issues faced by community-owned common lands or wastelands in India have severe consequences for marginalized poor communities who depend on these lands for their livelihoods. Encroachment, weak legal protection, and overexploitation result in displacement, loss of access to natural resources, and reduced availability of livelihood options. Conflicts and limited participation in decision-making can further marginalize these communities, resulting in social tensions and exclusion from land governance processes. Climate change impacts and lack of sustainable resource management practices can exacerbate vulnerabilities, impacting the livelihoods and well-being of marginalized poor communities relying on these lands for sustenance. It is crucial to approach these issues with compassion, recognizing the plight of marginalized poor communities and their reliance on community-owned common lands also known as gochar or wastelands. 
 A multi-faceted action approach involves -(i) advocacy for robust legal protection to ensure that communities' rights are recognized;(ii) promoting sustainable resource management practices;(iii) community-based conservation to safeguard natural resources;(iv) facilitating meaningful community participation in decision-making processes to empower marginalized communities to have a voice in shaping their own futures;(v) addressing social equity including addressing gender disparities and caste-based discrimination, and promoting equal access to resources and opportunities;(vi) supporting livelihood alternatives to reduce dependence on community-owned common lands and provide diverse income streams;(vii) collaboration with local organizations and communities to harness local knowledge and expertise to design context-specific solutions.These actions, driven by empathy and determination, include assessing the ecological status, engaging local communities, developing a restoration plan, mobilizing resources, implementing the plan, monitoring and evaluating progress, building capacity, and fostering community ownership. 
 Community-owned commons cover 25% of India's landmass. 350 Million people depend on commons for their livelihood. They give critical income and sustenance to the village's landless poor, especially women, as they supply food, fodder, medicine, firewood, timber, and many other products. They derive 40-60% income from these sources. Conservation of commons doesn't only impact the livelihood of marginalized small farmers but also improves surface and groundwater, soil nutrients, pollination, pest control, and carbon storage and creates a healthy ecosystem which in turn helps improve the productivity and resilience of farms, forests, and pastures which is essential in the phase of the climate crisis. In short, the conservation of commons directly impacts livelihood, ecosystems, biodiversity, food security, environment, livestock, climate change and many other related causes.
