For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. But most people walk past them without a second glance. “Like this”, Dr. Bhagat explains, “many elders die on the roads.”Since 2003, SHEOWS (Saint Hardyal Educational and Orphans Welfare Society) has rescued over 10,000 elderly people from the streets and given them a home with care and support. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. The poor parents are not willing to send their intellectually challenged children to care centres and special schools because they are not able to carry the children physically and the children have no toilet controls. Also, the Intellectually challenged children are not able to brush, dress and clean themselves.They need to be spoon-fed.Physiotherapy is not affordable to parents because it costs as much as Rs. 200. Even if they try to take care of these children, they will have to forego their daily wage. The IC children have limited access to medical care because of the above-mentioned inevitable reasons. 
 Home-based training on daily living skills (DLS), providing special education, speech, physiotherapy training, and communication skills training at doorsteps.To enable 100 intellectually challenged children to receive quality therapy services.Reducing the burden of the parents of intellectually challenged children.Improving the life skills of intellectually challenged children and to enable these children to look after themselves with the help of therapies.

Therapy Equipments for Mentally Retarded Children

In our three special schools for MR, CP and autistic students, a lot of children come without food. We had face to face conversations with their parents and legal guardians to get to the heart of the matter, and most of the parents requested us to provide food for their special children since they are unable to. This is why we proposed to “Food for the Poor Children” to support special children. 
 	Beneficiaries from our ongoing day schools for MR children will get nutritious food on all days. 	Importance will be given to organic healthy foods.	To provide nutrition to the MR children who are already enrolled in our centre.	To provide the balanced diet and yoga classes every day 
 -More dropouts and never-enrolled students will be benefited from this project. -It will help the poor receive a nutritious balanced diet.-Reducing the burden of parents.-Mainstreaming the eligible mentally retarded children.

At present, the existing available schemes are addressing only the welfare items like supply of aids and appliances and maintenance grants. No one is even speak about their sustainable livelihood. An Inclusive, Eco-Friendly Livelihood support for the Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and Mentally Ill.

Mentally Challenged Children   face many barriers to have good health. Other than the special education and therapy services offered at our special school, it is important to provide healthy drinks, and nutritious millet snacks, for our 135 special childrenThese children have limited means and come from disadvantaged backgrounds, which can lead to a certain level of malnourishment. It is essential to ensure that the school is fully-equipped to provide nutritious healthy drinks, and nutritious millet snacks on a daily basis.●        Having poorer overall health.●        Having less access to adequate health care.●        Unable to have healthy diets.Mentally Challenged Children   often are more susceptible to preventable health problems that decrease their overall health and quality of life. Secondary conditions such as pain, fatigue, obesity, and depression can occur as a result of having a disabling condition. 
 We plan to provide pure milk and Organic millets/snacks one time in a day, to ensure 135 children studying at our residential school live healthily. Any donations received will fund this programme and help to maintain our ethos.All of the children enrolled at our special school belong to economically weaker sections of society and many come from tribal or scheduled caste communities. Only when children have a healthy mind and body will they be able to focus on their education. 
 This project will enable us to provide healthy pure milk and nutritious snacks to around 135 children presently studying at our special schools in Dindigul and Theni districts of Tamilnadu.With a donation of Rs. 6000, you can sponsor a bright young Mentally Challenged student to ensure they receive a month of healthy meals. ●       The COVID-19 pandemic has disproportionately affected such Mentally Challenged Children.
