Banshabati Gram Panchayet in Suti-I block with a population of 4801 with 920 families. The village has around 416 Hindu (Rajbanshi and Ghosh families – mostly milkmen) and 504 Muslim families. Almost all Muslims are small farmers and around 10 – 15 % of them are landless. Among the Hindu’s 60% are small farmers and 30% are landless. Men often migrate out and work as masons and also do hawking. Agriculture is not adequate to support livelihood and women (both Hindus And Muslims) are engaged in Bidi making which primarily sustains their existence. A good proportion of children particularly among the Muslims either have never attended school or have dropped out. They are mostly helping their families in bidi making or are looking after/grazing animals (particularly boys from Ghosh families).For sustained community development, the need arises for integrated activities in health, nutrition, education &amp; income generating sectors. Investing in children from their very earliest moments displaces negative patterns in a society and is the key to sustained development. We felt the need to provide a child-friendly atmosphere in which pre-school, drop-outs and working children get motivated towards education, be healthy and have the opportunities to develop to their full potential. 
 Our aim was to empower the local community to ensure healthy development in children in a sustained manner - creating an enabling environment so that each child has an opportunity to develop to his/her potential. Our immediate objective was are to support supplement and complement the existing schooling system through the creation of a motivational environment &amp; prepare the working children for induction into formal schooling system and sensitize parents towards the need of educating children.
