It is alarming and heart-wrenching,” Aaboo shares.But no matter how daunting the task might be Aaboo has made it his life mission to see the fight against human trafficking till the end. Living in a hell on earth“The abuse young girls face in red-light areas is beyond comprehension,” Aaboo shares. “These young girls are robbed of their innocence and their childhood. Traffickers beat them with rods, burn them, and mutilate their private parts just to break them. Children are kept in separate apartments where multiple men abuse them and get addicted to substances”, Aaboo says. Through his NGO Purnata, Aaboo is on a mission not just to rescue the victims from red-light areas but also to rehabilitate them and give them a fresh start in life. To date, he has saved 85 children and 60 women from red-light areas, but for him, the job is far from over. ASTHA is a non-profit organization helping survivors of sex trafficking, human trafficking, domestic servitude, and child abuse in Uttar Pradesh and at the Indo-Nepal border by researching, analyzing, addressing, and then implementing ideas. Genesis of the organization was for policy advocacy for every individual’s rights in society. The working areas of the organization are Varanasi, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, and the Indo-Nepal Border. As the organization aims to fight against modern slavery with different tools of research, and according to the facts of the study, the organization, coordinates with different levels of government officials and frontline workers, and various developmental programs are organized. Project DemographicsThe population of Jaunpur district grew 14.89% between 2001 and 2011. Literacy increased from 59.84 to 73.66 percent. In 2011, 86.06 percent of men were literate and 61.7 percent of women. Children under six years formed 14.37% of the population. 7.71% of the population lives in urban areas. Scheduled Castes made up 22.04% of the population. The district's main economical activity is agriculture and allied sector. Jaunpur is the fastest developing area in eastern Uttar Pradesh with skill development, quality education and good infrastructure.The ProblemMost often, child labor occurs when families face financial challenges or uncertainty – whether due to poverty, sudden illness of a caregiver, or job loss of a primary wage earner. The consequences are staggering. Child labor can result in extreme bodily and mental harm, and even death because sometimes the children are forced to work in high risk area which puts their life at risk every step of the way. When parents are not educated, they are not able to see the importance of educating their children and this then becomes a vicious cycle that is hard to break. It is often observed that it is children of uneducated parents who are often pushed into labor and menial jobs.Despite schools in these villages, the distant location of junior high schools, combined with inadequate resources and teaching methods, contributes to high dropout rates. Without the support of family or community, these children often fall into child labor or early marriage, perpetuating the cycle of poverty and exclusion.Solution Approach/ActivitiesWhen children are brought up in an environment that fosters intellectual, physical and emotional development, they become responsible citizens and contribute to the development of the society and economy. Child labor is an unforgivable crime that robs children of their childhood. Despite the government efforts and stringent laws, this social evil continues to prevail in our society. Child labor hinders the growth and progress of a child and impedes an entire nation’s the social and economic development. Therefore, we ought to come together and channelize our efforts in the right direction to stop child labor. OutcomesChild labor not only jeopardizes the health and mental well-being of children but also poses risks to their physical, psychological, and moral development, highlighting the urgent need for comprehensive solutions to address this social problem. Child labor takes away the kids opportunity of having a normal childhood, a proper education, and physical and mental well-being. In some countries, it is illegal but still, it's a far way from being completely eradicated. It affects their education, with a high risk of dropping out of compulsory education . Child labor also has negative effects on children's health and psychological well-being, although empirical research on these effects is limited. There are two major benefits: Improved education and improved health. Both translate into economic gains.
