Much of the harm to the environment is caused by humans and a major part of the damage is irreversible. There is an urgent need to protect the ecology. This can ONLY be achieved by changing the collective mindset from ignorance to education, and pushing the aware people towards action. Babul is engaged in spreading environmental awareness along the 3 verticals of environment, biodiversity, and sustainable development, using short videos, social media and traditional advocacy. We are slowly and steadily making progress towards a less ignorant and more proactive society. We have many eco-awareness projects lined up and we need your valuable support to realize them. Awareness is the first step towards environmental protection. Our flagship program towards this end is the world's 1st Online EcoDictionary in video format. We have about 15 Facebook pages dedicated to biodiversity awareness. We are building the library for easy access to people. We regularly conduct advocacy events. Every year in June, we organize the Environment Film Festival at Hyderabad and take it to different places. We conduct screenings , eco-games and activities which include biowalks and online and offline contests. Some of our popular programs are EcoDoctor, EcoAntakshari, BioRangoli, Plastic Free, FunDuChallenge, Virtual Zoo etc., We also run a channel on YouTube. In view of the extreme hardships faced by the situation resultant of the Corona Virus pandemic, we are also in to providing Covid Relief to various communities affected by lockdown and health regulations. We assisted about 3500 migrant labour stuck in Hyderabad during April - June 2020. The relief included food, ration, lockdown essentials, travel assistance, tech support etc., From July 2020 onwards we are also included the private school teachers, street vendors, handloom weavers etc., in our beneficiary groups. We have a view count of 30000 plus on our videos on YouTube. Our posts, live streams and other videos on social media attract good engagement and shall continue to do so. We cut down on costs by using natural light for our shoots, along with adhering to the best practices of sustainable filmmaking and distribution.

Gen-X is not using hard-copy dictionaries any more. Being the youngest science, Environment has many less known rather unknown words most of which are compound words [eg. Climate Change] that are not available in regular dictionaries. In view of this there is an urgent need for a video format dictionary for ENVIRONMENT made accessible to all. This bits at the base of Environmental ignorance and propels people to ACT towards Nature protection by spreading much needed awareness. Sponsor EcoWord or EcoPhrases and see your name and picture in the credits of the video hosted in YouTube for posterity. 
 BABUL is building EcoDictionary under Creative Commons hosted in YouTube for universal access with the support of the people by inviting them to sponsor an EcoWord or a group of EcoPhrases. Each word will have a video of 2 to 3 minutes explaining the meaning and related information. The sponsor will be credited in the video credits with name and photo. This is only such project in the world and first of its kind.

Rampant use of plastic is causing lot of damage to us all humans, to other living creatures and to Nature as a whole. In some cases this damage is irreversible. Untold misery to animals, birds, aquatic life; choked drains &amp; urban floods; high incidence of cancer; pollution of land, water, vegetation and air; ugly streets and surroundings; mosquito breeding etc., are some examples of the harm to Environment caused by plastics. Indiscriminate use of Single Use Plastics, irresponsible disposal, weak garbage collection systems, low awareness rate are some of the reasons which need to be fixed. Even though there is some legislation in place, it is proving insufficient due to poor implementation. What is needed is a collective strong will of all the stakeholders to drastically reduce the production and use of Single Use Plastics. The root cause of Plastic pollution is its durability and quality of being non-biodegradable. Though efforts are on to find technological solutions to this, the best way to deal with this is bringing a behavioural change in the attitude of people towards plastic. <img src="https://cfstatic.give.do/00b5d61e-4d4b-4cda-bb17-1f1fd3f995de.jpeg" />

The power of people can change even the deeply penetrated collective habits. We will identify an area in terms of geography and demography, expose the people to the negative impacts of plastics on Natural environment. Campus of an educational institute, a township are some examples. For this, we will run strong campaigns with appealing content that forces people to act. Virtual /on ground events are used for this. To save time and for effective monitoring Social Media groups are formed. Next, we explain the strategy and develop consensus of all stockholders. In the beginning we will be moderately incentivising people to wean away from addiction to plastics and simultaneously make available the alternatives and educate them about the use of the same. Volunteers will be enrolled from within the target population and oriented to execute and monitor the progress. Suggested timelines are 9 to 12 months. Focus among SUPs is thin Plastic Carry bag. The program will be documented to capture the before and after scenarios. Support of local small businesses and Government officials will be enlisted.  
 Exemplary beginning with the considerable reduction in the use of Single Use Plastic - thin carry bags, will lay a strong foundation for the Plastic Free neighbourhood. Change in the plastic use habits among the residents, students, housewives, maids, office goers, senior citizens, local businesses, the members of the RWA, local government officials and peoples representatives. With the people accepting the use of alternative substitutes for the plastic carry bag, supporting mechanisms to ensure the market availability is put in place. Creating a highly motivated team of volunteers who are sensitive to the Plastics issue, continue the good work in the community. The way people lead their lives and celebrate festivities moves towards eco-friendly lifestyles. Focus will be extended beyond carry bags to different Single Use Items. Students in the community engage in periodical SUP contests and receive prizes. Efforts will be made to promote the cause in social and mainstream media for enhanced outreach. Feedback from covered population will be gathered, strategy refined to increase effectiveness and smoothen the bottlenecks. A template based solution to the SUP threat will be developed and shared with people wanting to take up similar initiatives. Though this takes a long time, making a beginning is a must. Funduchallenge in a step in that direction. The Constitution of India guarantees the citizens many Fundamental Rights and we all enjoys them, knowingly or unknowingly. But we conveniently forget about the FUNDAMENTAL DUTIES given in the same Constitution. One of these duties is to PROTECT NATURE. FunDuChallenge - FUNdamental DUty Challenge aims to do this in a fun way, easy to understand and simple to do. It is an online challenge to ensure easy participation and designed keeping in view the needs of today’s Social Media. Participant can record video reading the fundamental duty text in his / her choice of Indian Language, post it in any one or more social media platforms nominating friends to take up the challenge. Hashtag #funduchallenge enables searching of FDC video posts. However, we need to motivate volunteers spread all over India to realise FDC videos in different languages and promote them.This requires doing many things Involving expenditure. Hence this fundraiser. 
 FunDuChallenge was launched in Jan 2020 and could make decent dent in the ignorance of people and enhanced awareness. We did mega events on Republic Day 26 Jan [2020 2021] , Independence Day 15 Aug 2020 and 26 Nov 2020 Constitution Day. We did good work with very limited resources. FDC is picked up by Department of Justice Govt of India and recommended to Prime Minister Office for inclusion in Man Ki Baat. So far more than 500 videos are uploaded in 6 languages with over 50,000 views. Considering the huge work of sensitising about 100 crore Indians, we need to find a more systematic way to do this. For higher outreach that is cost-effective and to do FunDuChallenge in innovative and creative way, we seek your support. Till now we could only conduct less physical events, webinars. With the lockdown restrictions easing we are planning to do more on-ground live events involving students and regular virtual engagements to rope in more people. Volunteers are motivated remotely and guided how to do the events, training is given to prepare their own kits like cloth banners, FDC Text placards with Camera holes etc., All this is possible ONLY with YOUR support.

The festival is hosted in the historical Sri Sarathi studios, Hyderabad. To ensure better connect with audience and leverage mileage nationally and internationally, the festival is held every year during first week of June to coincide with World Environment Day. A lot of films related to Nature, Biodiversity, Sustainability, climate Action etc. are made in India and abroad. As Environment has less priority, there is an urgent need to bring these films to the audience and also it is important that this happens in a carnival type film festival to attract attention. There will be regular virtual activities across social media platforms for enhanced outreach.Apart from screening short films on ENVIRONMENT &amp; PANDEMIC and Eco films, there will be Seminars / Panel Discussions / Eco Bazar / Master Classes etc., Our hashtags are #babulecofest and #babulecofest21 
 5th BEFF has two components [1] Short Film Contest on the current theme ENVIRONMENT &amp; PANDEMIC. The duration is max 5 minutes and the total cash prize is ₹50,000 [Fifty thousands] To ensure wider participation we are accepting entries via film festival submission platforms and also directly. Films of all genres and made by mobile are also allowed. Two step Jury for pre-selection and final screening ensures the best of the films reach the audience. World acclaimed film entries are included by special invitation. [2] Eco Films for Screening has upto 2 hours films across all themes related to Environment with special focus on the current issues that require action. The festival is mostly volunteer driven to keep the costs to the minimum. After the main festival is over, follow up mini travelling festivals are also envisaged with packages curated to suit the other locations. While the live physical form festival helps us reach the Nature Lovers of Hyderabad, lot of online action will happen in internet and social media to educate people in these tough times of pandemic. All efforts are being made to involve Media and Celebrities for extra reach. All this will be possible ONLY with your SUPPORT. 
 BEFF will sensitive 800 people about the importance of Nature and immediate need to protect Environment. If an on field direct action is done for protecting Nature, its impact in restricted in terms of time and geography. Instead if the same efforts are put in to bring in a change in the collective mindset of people in favour of environment, then it serves in multiple ways like, the motivated people will act for Nature throughout the rest of their lives, inspiring many others along the way to follow. This is the spirit behind BEFF. About 750 delegates will be watching the films in 5th BEFF and also participating in the Eco Side Events happening in parallel. The delegate kit comprising of cloth bag with message, film festival catalogue, environment related books and handouts, etc., ensure consistency in Nature Advocacy even after the festival over. The media coverage and social media campaigns will reach a minimum of 10,000 people. With Hyderabad recognition as the only city from India as a 2020 Tree City of the World, BEFF will do its bit to raise Ecoawareness leading to meaningful action.
