For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. Covid-19 has affected the entire human society across the globe. But, in all this, the weaker and deprived section of society has almost lost their livelihood. Therefore, the need of the era is to rejuvenate the means of employment for them. Our prime objective is to generate employment for the deprived community as well as migrants.InterventionCovid-19 has effected adversely to every sphere of human life. But, as we are associated with the deprived section of society, out initial objective is to launch a pilot project in Morar Block of Gwalior District that can be replicated and scaled up in all the blocks of all the districts of Madhya Pradesh province depending upon the achievement. Among the multitude of problems, the two majors caused by this pandemic are;Ø Economic crisis due to loss of employmentØ Panic associated with conflicts due to the struggle for limited resourcesBoth the problems are complex and have affected the lifestyle of a layman. Our organization is intended to mitigate this predicament by generating employment at the local level. 
 Detailed statement - VAMA has worked with more than 2500 households in Morar block, which are either landless or marginal/small farmers.  The primary source of their livelihood is labour work, which has been adversely effected in present scenario. These households urgently necessitate an alternate source of income for survival. Activities in these hubs shall include tailoring, embroidery, carpet making, soap and candle making and also the possible products as per the demand of market. Each SIBs shall consist of 30 women from the slum are and surrounding villages. The production will be targeted to address the local market demand, while the sale of surplus products shall be explored for marketing through National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) surplus.Considering the countrified scenario, a need assessment shall be conducted prior to the production. Further, the activities would be concentrated around grocery shops, small vending and service outlets of village. Vegetable, mushroom cultivation shall be encouraged in the area. To ensure the timely sale of vegetables a better coordination shall be established with large scale agro companies and local mandi purchasers too. The cultivation shall be micro scale individual activity while the marketing shall be organized collectively with proper quality control and standardization.Training, Awareness building, SensitizationLack of awareness, education and poor skills have all together has multiplied the magnitude of issue for this deprived section of society. This has resulted in panic, violation of social distancing and lockdown norms, violence against medical staff, police, corona worriers and even neighbors, friends and relatives. Incidents of refusal/reluctance to tests and voluntary reporting of symptom reporting have also been noticed. Reports suggest that, if more responsible behavior would have been adopted, then awareness as well as early action could reduce the impact of corona significantly. VAMA works with the National Rural Health Missions (NRHM) ASHA (Rural health workers) training program. These trained ASHAs monitor and assist in basic health issues to the countryside people. With this close association with ASHA workers and experience with NHRM we propose to create awareness and sensitization among the society. With this advanced training to the ASHA workers, involvement of panchayat, SHG and FPO we propose to create a group of more than 700 person, who shall educate, sensitize and create the required awareness within the Society. This entire exercise shall generate a trained man power which will assist local administration and medical authorities to implement the directive at grass root level. VAMA has contact with two ASHA workers in every discussed village who may be used as well-trained worker to sensitize the people at local level and to convey necessary instructions.  Corona pandemic may exist for a long duration. Further certain level of normalcy could only be expected only by the compliance of strict personal protection and social distancing. To sensitize the rural public, a local easily available trainer shall be required and the task may be played effectively by the ASHA worker. 
 Potential impact (in 3 months, in 1 year)In 3 Months - At least 400 families would be directly benefited by the project. While the possibilities and horizons of scale up shall be open. All these activities would be organized and standardized to ensure quality, possibility of scale up and sustainability.In 12 Months – Depending upon the project feedback, success and outcomes of 3 months it may be scaled up with a broader target. Necessary improvements shall be done and approx. 1500 families shall be covered under the umbrella. Emphasis shall be on more organized and large scaled production as well as marketing activities. Further the candidates shall be trained to develop marketing skills.Segment of the population it will serveConcentration of these activities would be in the total Morar Block. Livelihood activities would be targeting migrant labors and the economically deprived while awareness and sensitization would target all the families of the block irrespective of religion, caste/creed or economic status.We propose to generate livelihood for 1500 such deprived households. Morar block consist of 175 villages, of which VAMA has effective presence in 159 villages. We have organized a number of social and economic activities in this region, mostly implemented through active CBO’s, FPOs and SHG. 27 villages of the 159 are large and consist of slum dwellings, which are most effected due to this pandemic crisis. In these 27 slums VAMA would establish Small Industrial Hubs (SIB) and shall generate employment for approx. 100 women.
