Save the Children (SC) India is a member of SC Alliance, a global network that was founded by Eglantyne Jebb in 1919 during World War 1 to alleviate the starvation of children. SC started working in India in the 1960s and since then has been recognized as one of the leading child rights Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) of India. In 2004, the Indian entity of SC was established by registering under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 as Bal Raksha Bharat (Also known as Save the Children) (registration number S/51107/2004).
