Established in 1945, Bani Mandir works to educate children; provide food to the hungry; generate awareness for social and economic development; give care to the needy and elderly; create women empowerment; generate employment; give vocational training; and protect the environment.Our centre incorporates and houses many areas of interest including a garden, children’s park, health check-up centre, and care centre for adolescent girls and pregnant mothers.SAHAY, our education programme, supports the education of over 1000 children. We also provide vocational training to over 30 children who have dropped out of school and have lost interest in continuing their studies.To help the poor and aged, we provide accommodation and food free of cost. We also have a community development programme, which addresses a number of issues, such as the construction of roads, sanitation systems in poor housing areas, and encourage and develop organic farming. Furthermore, we support women empowerment through social and economic development, self help groups, and lending micro loans.At present, Bani Mandir is working with approximately 10,000 beneficiaries within 60 villages of West Bengal.

Amiya Mondal, 72, comes from Khordanahala village. She was living with her poor daughter and son-in-law who could not afford to provide two square meals for themselves never mind her. Because of this, Amiya was mistreated by her family and felt utterly humiliated.

Granny Amiya Mondal was selected under Bani Mandir’s Sponsor-a Grandparent Programme and stayed with us until the 31st of March 2013 when the programme ended. She was given food, clothing and healthcare support as well as comforted and motivated to live with self-respect.

Amiya Mondal selflessly donated whatever she received from Bani Mandir to her daughter and her family. They realised their mistake and were sincerely sorry for the way they had treated her. Amiya rejoiced in regaining her lost position in the family when all members began to show her the respect she deserved. Today, the family continue to need external support in order to continue providing Amiya with food and medical help.

It is a programme from among persons belonging to poor and needy families struggling with poverty. Our goal is to eradicate poverty and give back their reputation as well through livelihood support such as Tea-Stall, Grocery shop, Vegetable Vending, Fish Vending, Potato Onion Shop, Fuchka vending, Goat Rearing etc.Our organization’s operational area consists of 60 villages under 07 Gram Panchayat of Diamond Harbour Block – II in the district which is mostly on agricultural based villages. Inspite of working till morning to evening they cannot meet their daily ends. So they cannot maintain their family as well as children’s education. As a result their poverty are increasing day by day alongwith child labour, unemployment, destitution are increasing. 
 To meet their Livelihood support till date, Bani Mandir has taken the initiative to raise funds locally alongwith main support Give India in the option “Donate a Cycle Rickshaw for a poor villager as livelihood option”. We have indentified 105 such poor and needy families based on the list of poor persons provide by VDCs, a short listing project is done at Bani Mandir. Accordingly, the names are finalized to help with livelihood support to such 15 persons for Tea-Stall, 15 persons for Grocery Shop, 15 persons for vegetable vending, 15 persons for fish vending, 15 persons for Fuchka vending, 15 persons for Potato Onion and 15 Goat rearing for female candidates. Bani Mandir’s field staff keep close contact with the villages and villagers where the beneficiaries are finalized. The support so provided has been beneficial to check their poverty as well as able to give back social responsibility and reputation.After distribution to the beneficiaries, we maintain Benefit Register, Books of Accounts and other relevant documents as well and time to time Feedback will be submitted to Give India.  
 After distribution of Livelihood support such as Tea Stall, Grocery Shop, Vegetable Vending, Fish Vending, Fuchka, Potato, Onion Shop, Goat Rearing to 105 beneficiaries, we are thinking that they will be highly benefited and able to eradicate their poverty alongwith reduce child labour, unemployment etc. Besides, their economic development will surely encourage other such backward and socially underprivileged persons to follow them.For an Example had already in organized some livelihood option financial supported by Give India that are i) “Help a poor villager set up a Tea Stall” – 28 beneficiaries  (2008 - 2013)ii) “Help a poor villager set up a small grocery shop”. – 8 villagers (2008 - 2013)iii) “Goat rearing for a woman for the livelihood support of her poor family” - 9 women (2008 - 2013)All the options have been successfully going on. Now the beneficiaries of these options are able to establish their family economically.Thus through these livelihood support, we want to achieve our goal reducing their poverty and to bring back them in the main stream of the society. Our programme will help not only the families of the beneficiaries financially but also their socio-economic status will be progressed give back to their social reputation in the society.

Livelihood Support to help the rural poor villagers under privileged persons

India is home to over 100 million elderly people and the figures have seen a consistent rise in the last few years. The problems faced by the elderly are anything from an unstable income, in which to support themselves, to ill health and an absence of social security.One in every three senior citizens are abused in India and over 50% of cases originate within the family. We realized that they needed productive activities as well as a platform where they can share their thoughts and seek counselling. 
 Initiated by HelpAge India, the programme started supporting Village Development Communities who were in turn encouraged to support over 300 destitute and vulnerable elderly persons while providing them with regular food. All our elderly beneficiaries have a savings account as part of our bank linkage programme. We have also set up three medical check-up centres and one physiotherapy centre. Health camps have been organised where over 100 elderly persons have already had cataract operations and been given necessary spectacles.

It is a Programme from among children belonging to poor, destitute and orphan families struggling with not only poverty but also existence. Our goal is to eradicate children different abuse such as physical, emotional ill-treatment sexual abuse, neglect and exploitation etc. through Child Protection Policy. Our organisation’s operational area consists of 60 Villages under 07 Gram Panchayat of Diamond Harbour Block – II in the District which is mostly on agriculture based villages. Most of the villagers are labour – class. After working hard morning till evening they cannot maintain their family alongwith children’s education, health, nutrition as well. Above all, they are deprived of any Govt. help. As a result their poverty are increasing day by day and they have began to think that they are born in poverty and will die in poverty. So the children are deprived of anything which are their birth right. It is estimated that there are a lot of girls and boys who are engaged in hazardous work that is mentally, physically, socially or morally dangerous and harmful to them. It interferes with their education by depriving them of the opportunity to attend school due to excessively long and heavy work.

Child Protection Awareness Programme

It is a programme for school boys and girls belonging to very poor and needy families struggling with poverty. The goal is to reduce the drop out at primary or secondary level owing to lack of educational supplies, proper uniforms etc.To fulfil the noble mission, our organisation has come forward to stand by them with our help to bring them back in the main stream of the society. So our organisation has initiated this project.Our organisational operational area consists of 60 villages under 07 Gram Panchayat of Diamond Harbour Block – II and the district mostly consists of agricultural based villages. Inspite of working from morning till evening, they cannot meet their daily ends. So, they cannot maintains their children’s education as well. As a result drop outs and child labour are increasing day by day. 
 To provide the required educational support, Bani Mandir has taken the initiative to raise funds locally along with main support GiveIndia. We have identified 700 school going boys and girls ( V-VIII – 400 + IX-X – 300). Based on the list of students provided by the V.D.Cs, a short listing project is done at Bani Mandir. Accordingly, the names are finalized to support with educational supplies, school dresses, school bags, water bottles, shoes etc. for almost 234 students on monthly basis. The Bani Mandir field staffs keep close contact with the schools where the beneficiary children are studying. The support so far provided has been beneficial to check school dropout and to facilitate joyful learning.After distribution to the beneficiaries, we maintain Benefit Register, Books of Accounts and other relevant document as well.  
 After distribution of school uniform and kits to 700 beneficiaries, we are thinking that they will be highly benefited and decrease the drop out along with reduce the child labour. Besides, it will encourage other boys and girls to follow them. Thus we want to achieve our goal to bring back them in the main stream of the society. Our programme will help the families of the beneficiaries financially and their socio economic status will be progressed and they will give back their social reputation in the society.
