And the worst affected are the children who grow up in red-light areas and are subjected to constant abuse and violence. “The sight of a 12-year-old girl being gang-raped by a group of men near a house l haunts me to this date. I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. He has further supported over 20,000 children with a better life.Sadly, Of the 250 the children rescued from abuse and exploitation, around 70 of them are HIV positive. That was the day I knew my mission in life was to get these children out of the hell-like conditions in red-light areas. Suchetana started its journey in 2009 with the aim of women empowerment, mainstreaming of child labour and tribal all-round development. Since 2012 a National Child Labor School (Ministry of Labor, Govt. of India) is running under Suchetana and about 100 child labourers are already mainstreamed. An animal husbandry farm is running for tribal women to uplift their economical upliftment. We are nurturing and preserving tribal culture which is the most primitive culture of the country by a few cultural groups of tribal people who perform different places and another source of their income. With the aim of socio-economic establishment of women, we have arranged different skill development training, design development, marketing strategy and banking linkage training for them. We arrange stalls in trade fairs from time to time where they exhibit and sell their products. Some of the artisans collaborated with some shops with help of Suchetana. Some are doing their own business. Suchetana is going to set up a handicrafts cluster for 1000 women within March 2022. Besides this, we have arranged different awareness camps on health, education, labour, environment of different State Govt. departments. All the training we have arranged for handicraft artisan and unemployed educated youth are from ICDS, DRDC, MSME, Health, Labor Dept. etc.

﻿Underprivileged is a word that reflects the status of child labour. Most of these children are seen working at either tea shops or factories or they are kept as maidservants. These children roam around in the streets as most of them are homeless and orphans because they don't have permanent dwellings. They take shelter under bridges or railway platforms. Their survival becomes harder during monsoon and in the winter. Their family earning status is worse because they have single parents. Father/mother either died or left the family. Thus they fail to manage a proper square meal for survival. And their needs are not just to acquire meals but they also need clothing to protect themselves from heat and cold. In these circumstances, it becomes next to impossible for a child to carry out their study. Education thus is forced to become a luxury need for them and day to day survival turns out to be of the utmost importance to these children. 
 During our work, we tried our best to explore all possibilities which would help them to maintain their survival. A hostel building is under construction where 50 girls child labour will stay which will start from April 2022. But we need to care about 200 child labour still. So still there are certain difficulties which we wish to resolve for their future by meeting up their basic needs and giving them a permanent home to live in. We are providing food to 100 children now. Arrange winter garments, books, copies by donations either cash or kind. Periodically their health check-up is going on with the collaboration of PRAYAS, a local medical organization. If we are able to provide them with a portion of hygienic food, only then we can help them to continue with their schooling building up a healthy future for them.
