I had even seen my friend’s 15-year-old sister and 70-year-old grandmother being forced to do sex work for the price of a cup of tea”, recalls Girish. “I started by merely feeding and teaching children of sex workers initially with the intention of giving them some respite from the horrors of life of abuse in red-light areas. For 11-year-old Ravi (name changed) a normal day would start before the sun rose and involved carrying heavy loads up a narrow staircase, in a ramshackle building filled with clouds of toxic smoke. The flood situation in Tripura is dire, with the state experiencing its most devastating flooding in the last 100 years. Continuous rainfall over the past 48 hours has caused the water levels of all major rivers, including the Khowai, Howrah, Manu, and Gomati, to rise above the danger mark. This has led to widespread inundation across the state, severely impacting the districts of West Tripura, Gomati, Unakoti, Khowai, and Sepahijala. Tragically, at least 10 people have lost their lives due to rain-triggered landslides.

OUR EXPERIENCE &amp; IMPACT The Centres, besides classrooms equipped with whiteboards, have added educational facilities like Library that provide online and offline learning support. Both have employed trained facilitators for enabling students to practice relevant age-specific learning methods to their advantage; hone skills in observation, analysis, and presentation, and nurture their ability to think. Students are also given extra attention with personal care through Doubt clearing in any subject. Though hamstrung with faltering internet connectivity (a common feature in such remote localities in India) the Centres, each having one computer have got the learners even more engaged. Beyond classrooms, students perform:-	Prayers-	Upkeeping of classrooms and courtyard-	Practice punctuality-	Inculcation of fundamental civic senses ad duties-	Leaming teamwork-	Sports and performing creative activities like the Bratachai course, a highly effective and acclaimed form based on folk art, dance, drama, music, and song. SPADE, for better administration of Bartika, has formed an active local Advisory Group, comprising community seniors to ensure Community Participation and Ownership in the enrolment and retention of the learners, and egalitarian school management as well.
