Help Disabled Children with Shelter & Care

For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. But most people walk past them without a second glance. “Like this”, Dr. Bhagat explains, “many elders die on the roads.”Since 2003, SHEOWS (Saint Hardyal Educational and Orphans Welfare Society) has rescued over 10,000 elderly people from the streets and given them a home with care and support. The Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram has a dedicated rescue team that saves the elderly from the streets and gives them immediate medical care upon their arrival at the home. To tend to the multiple health complications of the seniors, the home has a medical facility with doctors and nurses, a physiotherapy unit, a pathology lab, a digital X-ray monitoring machine and a pharmacy to provide 24-hour care to older adults anytime they require assistance, even during emergencies. Dr. Bhagat prioritizes the health of the seniors and ensures that they receive three balanced meals a day based on their precise health requirements. Need for the fundraiserThe humanitarian mission of SHEOWS is making an impact in the area, as more and more people are being rescued and brought to Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. To meet the financial costs of running the home, SHEOWS needs support to continue providing the residents with all the facilities that they need. This includes constant care and round-the-clock medical attention, nutritious food and maintaining a hygienic environment to keep the seniors in comfort and good health. “We received a distress call saying that a blind girl is being held captive by a woman and is being forced to beg. Our volunteers were able to rescue that girl and bring her to the Blind Welfare Society home for girls. We cared for her and educated her. Today that girl is a senior government official”, says Asha Bhola, President, Blind Welfare Society (BWS) as she recalls how her organisation has been able to transform lives.BWS has been a ray of hope for 40 such blind girls, many of whom have been abandoned by their families owing to their visual impairment. Sadly, the care, shelter and education for blind girls come at a cost, and BWS is unable to keep its work going. If they don’t receive education, they will remain uncared for. They will continue to be ignored by not just their families but even by society at large. Whatever I am today is only because of the education I received. But sadly, every blind girl is not as fortunate. Cerebral Palsy Association of India is an NGO working towards the rehabilitation and self-sufficiency of the Intellectually Challenged persons with the aim to expand its services to serve the needy and all in our society and their families. The Workshop is a multi-category vocational center, therapy center offering gainful employment to the students who have acquired vocational skills over here.The NGO germinated from the love of Padma Bhushan recipient, Late Dr. N.H. Wadia and Late Dr. V. Kini towards their daughter who was diagnosed as Intellectually Challenged.  In 1968, they joined hands with other parent doctors, and gave birth to Cerebral Palsy Association of India for P.D.A.’s (People With Different Abilities), was initiated.The journey of helplessness to self-help began with barely three children. Today it is a hub of activities for 72 adults between 6 and 60 years of age. Till the year 1994, the center functioned as an educational center for children with cerebral palsy. In 1995, it took a diversion for vocational and prevocational activities for PDA’s (People with different abilities).

There are a lot of underprivileged students in our NGO, who require surgical intervention to improve their quality of life. Which costs 90 to 95 thousand per student including pre and post-surgery treatments. The beneficiaries of this project are from very low-income families, they are unable to bear the cost of this operation. Some of them are don’t even get nutritious food to eat. In this way, they can live his life in a normal way and connect with the mainstream and be useful to society. 
 In this project, through your donation, we would be able to provide good medical facilities with a specialist surgeon. We can provide them with proper pre and post-surgery treatments. 
 Through this treatment, we wish to give a better life to those special kids which will be very important for them to become self-reliant. They spend a lot of time hoping that, they will be able to walk or move on his own one day. But this has not happened yet due to the high cost of the operation.
