“They insert a candle in the vagina, fingers are inserted (in the vagina) and tortured, and if children don’t relent even then, they put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. “We received a distress call saying that a blind girl is being held captive by a woman and is being forced to beg. Our volunteers were able to rescue that girl and bring her to the Blind Welfare Society home for girls. We cared for her and educated her. Today that girl is a senior government official”, says Asha Bhola, President, Blind Welfare Society (BWS) as she recalls how her organisation has been able to transform lives.BWS has been a ray of hope for 40 such blind girls, many of whom have been abandoned by their families owing to their visual impairment. <ul><li>We are a Delhi based NGO, founded in 2014 we, today, are a network of almost 100 acid attack survivors among them 30 are employed with the foundation on diﬀerent projects. Chhanv works in multiple directions for at-risk, socially isolated acid attack survivors. Chhanv works as one point center for all kinds of help needed to survivors.  </li><li>The foundation’s campaign Stop Acid Attacks is a seminal eﬀort in bringing awareness on the rising number of acid violence occurring in India. Our network of acid attack survivors is greeted with praise by all corners of society for their restless fight to stop such violence. Sheroes have turned out as places where faces with scars are not behind the scenes. Sheroes’ is a power to reckon with — a mighty eﬀort and narrative of our moving times. Once burnt and scarred for life, there are around 30 survivors who are fellow humans slowly shedding the veil and counting on courage and their contributions have posted our advocacy on the acid attack.</li><li>Our foundation’s work has been recognised globally as we proudly achieved diﬀerent milestones winning the US government’s prestigious award, NDTV Indian Of The Year &amp; CNN-IBN Indian Of the Year, German broadcaster Deutsche Welle’s award for Stop Acid Attacks campaign, President of India’s Nari Shakti Award for Sheroes Hangout model and many more. Our supporters include generous individuals as well as organisations. </li><li>While helping survivors to rehabilitate and providing them jobs, we found that many of them lacked professional skills and so we thought that a café could be the only place where both the skilled and non-skilled ones can work and earn together besides spreading awareness to other people about acid attacks. Thus, the idea of Sheroes Hangout came up. A venue where new wave feminism evolves every day to overcome the challenges faced by women in South Asian societies and cultures.</li><li>We started Sheroes Hangout in Agra in December 2014. Today, with two cafes, in Agra &amp; Lucknow, the foundation has employed 30 survivors and added value to the life of hundreds of other girls by providing them counselling, medical help, career and education opportunities.</li></ul>

Your generosity has brought us closer to our objective of enhancing the lives of acid attack survivors, as we were able to raise almost 5 lakhs in just one month for the 'Diwali Campaign'. With just one-third of the target achieved, this campaign has still positively impacted the lives of survivors and made their festival of Diwali unchallenging. However, they are not able to rise from their survival modes and are forced to exist on an insufficient amount. Hence, we are proceeding this campaign with a motive to help them overcome their survival modes by providing their pending salaries. The rehabilitation and empowerment model of Chhanv Foundation, i.e, 'Sheroes Hangout' (a cafe run by acid attack survivors), was affected by the pandemic, leading to a great decline in the salaries of the survivors. We aim to exclude their liabilities and give them adequate monetary assistance so that they can cater to the needs of their families and other aspects crucial for their welfare. Jaya and Madhu are among the various survivors that urgently need your sustainment. Burn survivor Jaya's house was highly damaged by a flood, and she is not able to afford the expenses required for its renovation. Acid attack survivor Madhu's child is mentally challenged and his development is at stake as she can not afford his counselling.  We request you to further continue the unbreakable support you've shown and help these brave souls. This year's Diwali is especially significant for acid attack survivors, as after the distressing time of the pandemic, they look towards it with hopeful eyes. The Chhanv Foundation is a non-profit organization relentlessly working to eliminate acid attacks along with rehabilitation and empowerment of acid attack survivors; The 'Diwali Campaign', is yet another endeavour to enhance the lives of survivors. Through this campaign, we will provide the monetary help of ₹50,000 to 30 survivors and assist them along with their families.Why is this campaign the need of the hour?To think beyond these survival modes is far beyond reach for our survivors as the rehabilitation and empowerment model of Chhanv, i.e, 'Sheroes Hangout' (a cafe run by acid attack survivors), witnessed a great decline in sales due to the pandemic. The salaries of the survivors were also decreased by 70%, barely meeting their necessities.The Chhanv foundation threw its weight behind the survivors during this arduous stage but the government or any other organisation failed to show up a helping hand. This small community of survivors was exposed to several challenges during the lockdown. The lack of media coverage didn't bring the issues faced by survivors to the forefront and no one paid heed to their cries. Hence, It becomes extremely crucial to provide them monetary help as most of them are the sole earners of their families and they also need the added expenses of constant medical checkups, counselling, etc. 
 The support provided by Chhanv Foundation: To prevent survivors from collapsing and falling back into their misery, the Chhanv Foundation assisted to give them essentials and also initiated several campaigns during the pandemic to further support them. The major aspects where survivors were provided with assistance are as follows:<ul><li>Ration drive ₹16,39,225</li><li>Medical treatment ₹18,64,000</li><li>Salaries provided during a pandemic- ₹42,64,700</li><li>Rehabilitation-₹6,50,000</li></ul>Along with these, the foundation has also provided job opportunities to some survivors who recently associated with us. But even after constant efforts, the heavy breach of Pandemic on the Foundation has made it hard for it to provide more than the bare minimum to help them. The support that people have shown in our previous initiatives and the impact that it brought has made us optimistic towards our vision of transforming more lives. With your support, several acid attack survivors will once again be able to experience the happiness, the joy, and all the bliss that the festival of Diwali brings with it.

Ensuring Prosperous Diwali To 30 Acid Attack Survivors

Born in a remote village of Fatehpur in Meerut (UP), Julie, a 14-year-old girl, has survived hardships that are unimaginable to most children her age. She was acid attacked at her home eleven years ago by her father, Manish, who wanted to throw acid at her mother in a fit of jealous rage when she remarried. Julie, however, was splashed by a significant amount of acid, who was asleep next to her mother. She suffered a severe 40% burn on her face, arm, neck and chest, affecting the majority of her upper body. After the attack, her body suffered significant deformities from improper medical care; as a result, she was unable to move her head due to contracted skin around her neck.<img src="https://cfstatic.give.do/fb17bccf-b442-45f0-b075-c5cb564b2140.webp" width="552" />As she had to undergo several surgeries, going to school became impossible for Julie. She hasn't had the same education experience as others her age. The educational institutions are unequipped to intake disabled students like Julie. With no family support and a conflicted upbringing, Julie is now on her own and seeks rehabilitation not just to reintegrate herself in the society but to become self-reliant in her adulthood. We believe that Julie has every right to THRIVE! 
 In 2016, Chhanv reached out to Julie and facilitated specialized treatments at PGI in Lucknow and Apollo in New Delhi, where doctors operated on the skin contracted around her neck. In 2018, another surgery took place and finally Julie was able to walk and breathe properly. <img src="https://cfstatic.give.do/4a341835-1d18-4e0b-8338-437a7f97006a.png" width="396" />In 2020, Julie was permanently shifted to Chhanv’s rehabilitation facility in Noida to execute a customized rehabilitation plan considering her young age and deep burns. She still requires important reconstructive surgeries to heal her left eye and face along with progressive ranging and strengthening, psychological counselling, postoperative therapy and scar management. For Julie’s education, it would be difficult for her to enroll in any school because she needs to acquire the fundamentals as she must begin her education from scratch. We plan to do it in two steps:  <ul><li>STEP 1: To catch up on the fundamentals, she will require a special needs tutor, who will understand her unique learning needs and help her feel more comfortable about her learning methods. </li><li>STEP 2: We intend to enroll her in a recognized educational institution in accordance with her grade requirements after she is nourished to participate with her peers in a regular classroom.  </li></ul><img src="https://cfstatic.give.do/3519ff49-e339-4f8b-90be-d0558faf298c.jpg" width="1003" /> 
 With this fundraiser we will be critically investing in Julie’s safe, healthy and productive transition from a childhood exposed to acid violence to a well-placed adulthood, as she builds a better future for herself with your support. Julie may serve as a landmark case of adolescent acid attack disability under RPWD Act, 2016 for bringing about structural and behavioral improvements in schools that would make them more inclusive than ever before with your help.With the amount proposed for her regular living expenses, we would be able to provide Julie with all the necessary things a growing adolescent requires for growth &amp; development and a promising future irrespective of the ordeal imposed by the acid attack on her. <img src="https://cfstatic.give.do/edbbb27e-a1c7-49a4-aa3e-72fe35814708.jpg" />Hereby, we present the cost for the next three years to rehabilitate Julie in Phase 1
