If the children don’t relent even then, the abusers put chilli powder so that children will say “yes” because of the burning of the skin… There are teeth marks on their bodies, and their vaginal parts are burnt. When children stay in these conditions, it is painful even to hear,” says Lalitha SA of the Society for Participatory Integrated Development (SPID), while talking about many heart-rending stories of trafficked children in red-light areas. In over three decades, the team of SPID led by Lalitha, has saved over 3000 children from the red-light areas in Delhi, such as GB Road, and many from clutches of sex trafficking. Notably, our efforts from 2003 to 2006 led to the Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Government of Karnataka, issuing a circular on "Child Rights Grama Sabha," which has become a standard practice in the state. This initiative has provided a platform for rural children to express their opinions and collectively advocate for their rights.We have continued our work in the region through the "Children in Governance" project, collaborating with local government and frontline workers to deliver quality services to children and adolescents (2020-2024). We are also part of the larger consortium project IMAGE - Initiatives for Married Adolescent Girl's Empowerment and the CGOOD - Children Getting Out Of Devadasi System in the same region.Introduction Of CRT.The idea of Child Rights Trust as a resource organisation germinated in 1999. Dr. Padmini, Dr. Vasudeva Sharma NV and Mr. Anselm Rosario who have had experience of working in the field of children and child rights came together to form the Trust. It is registered under Indian Trust Act. CRT developed a network to begin with among NGOs to act as advocacy units in Karnataka State. Initially the Trust received support from CRY and UNICEF. Subsequently Every Child too supported CRT for its activities on training, capacity building and research, advocacy activities. CRT has worked with Government extensively in developing policies and plan of action for children in its initial stages.Strategy: Research, Capacity Building, Advocacy, and Lobbying on Child Rights issues, guided by the principles of the UNCRC. Vision: Every Right for Every Child Description: The programme includes conducting regular Child Rights training to various communities including field workers, teachers, media personnel, government officials and others who interact with children on a day to day basis. In three days programme will give them basic child rights inputs and also provide legal awareness, recent developments at state, regional, national, international and UN level developments and goals to be achieved collectively at local and national level. In an year we plan to conduct at least 12 programmes reaching out to 40 + participants in each programme with a follow up. That means we reach out to around 500 participants every year. To organise, follow up, develop material, conduct programmes and also help them to develop action plans.
