Share and Care Children’s Welfare Society is serving the needy children since 1984.The main objective is to impart education freely to the underprivileged, orphan children, girl, physically challenged people and children belonging to scheduled caste and tribes in remote villages.We run a crèche,a primary and a high school and impart free education to 200 children. Our School is recognized by the government of Tamilnadu, but not aided. Due to financial constraints, we are unable to pay our teachers and needs of the children are not being met as we wish. Since these children are from poor families they need support for their betterment in this competitive world.This project area is situated in Katchur village, Poondi Block in Tiruvellore district.The children from the remote village have no transportation facilities and most of their parents are illiterate and undernourished. The children need better care and good education to support their families and their communities at large.Our schools are functioning since 1990 exclusively for these children and are now educating 200 children.Most of them work as agricultural labourers, wood cutters. They have seasonal work and no regular job. Bonded labour and child labour still prevail. Sending their children to school is not that important for their parents because of poverty. Unless these children are brought to school by the lure of free transportation, education and mid-day meals, they have every possibility of dropping out.

Akshaya Trust - Introduction“Grow old gracefully” goes an old saying. But growing old is quite painful for many in the modern society. In many lower middle class and poor families, taking care of old people is becoming a major issue day by day. As a result, many senior citizens, who spent their entire life to bring up their children to give them better status in life, are seen as a burden to the family and are forced to search for new home.Akshaya Trust, has been doing a yeomen service to those destitute senior citizens by taking them into its fold, giving them shelter, healthy food, medical care and more importantly love and affection. Started by Mr. Gopalan, an industrialist, in the year 2001, Akshaya today houses 250+ senior citizens and provides them with all facility at free of cost. There is a full-fledged medical team of doctors and nurses visit the home regularly to keep the inmates healthy. Newspapers, magazines and TV are provided to engage and entertain the inmates. In case of any eventuality the home performs all the rituals if the inmate’s relatives don’t turn up.Motivated by the selfless service, many individuals and groups visit Akshaya regularly, support the Trust with donations and also spend time with the inmates entertaining them with music, games, bhajans and general conversations. Many people offer donations during their special days such as birthday, wedding day and memorial days of their relatives. Many families even come and celebrate their special days with the inmates.HIGHLIGHTS OF FACILITIES PROVIDED AT AKSHAYA OLD AGE HOMES·       Generator Installed: Power cut is a constant problem in the rural area where Akshaya is located. This results in discomfort to the inmates, especially during summers. Also, the water pumping and even cooking gets affected because of erratic power supply. To overcome this, with the donation from a well-wisher, Generator set has been installed, which can take care of the entire needs of Akshaya home.·       Cupboards provided: For storing personal things, inmates were using their own bags and suitcases, which becomes cumbersome for them and also becomes messy. To make it convenient for the inmates to store their personal belongings, individual cupboards are provided to every inmate.·       Audio system installed: The main entertainment for the senior citizens is listening to music, bhajans and discourses. Many volunteer groups visit Akshaya home regularly to conduct music performance, bhajan sessions and talk shows. To enhance these events and also to play music regularly, a professional audio system with amplifier and mics was installed and is being used very effectively.·       Mosquito Protection: Mosquito menace is a major problem in the area where Akshaya is located. Many times, this leads to spreading of diseases and also discomfort to inmates during sleeping. Looking at the problem, a set of well-wishers came forward to provide mosquito nets to the windows of the entire building. After this, the problem has greatly reduced.·       Solar water heater installed: As the inmates are aged persons, there is a constant need for hot water for bathing and drinking in addition to cooking. A considerable amount of power is consumed to make the hot water every month. To reduce the monthly power cost and also to become more eco-friendly, large solar water heaters are installed with the support of few donors. Now there is an uninterrupted supply of hot water throughout the day.·       Solar Power plant- All the three units are installed with solar power plant to save operating cost. These units not only supply to our units but also export the excess power to grid when it is not used.·       Festivals and Tours – All festivals are celebrated in grand way so that inmates don’t miss any occasion. The healthy inmates are taken out once in three months to temples, beach and important places in Chennai so that they enjoy their last part of life.·       Entertainment: Many volunteers individually as well as in groups, visit our homes at regular intervals and present music shows, bhajans, game shows, magic shows and so on to keep the residents engaged and entertained.Systems and Procedures·         All our payments are received and made through a special software custom made for us. The software also stores donors' database, residents' data. Reminders for donation are also automated through this software.·       95% payments are received and made through digital mode.·       We have a volunteer internal auditor who checks all our financial transactions on a regular basis.·       We have an internal audit to check the various operations (cleanliness, record maintenance, food quality, residence grievances, etc) on a regular basis.·       Feedback from the donors is obtained on a daily basis and our average score so far is above 4.5 out of 5. ·       We are fully compliant with Government regulations, with all the valid licenses (fire, sanitary, building stability, 80 g, 12 AA etc) to operate at every unit.·      Employee welfare is one of our important focus areas. For all our employees we have ESI, PF, bonus, gratuity, family medical insurance coverage, accident insurance policy, and many such welfare schemes.·       We have an objective appraisal system for evaluation of employee performance on a regular basis.·       We have systems and procedures for admission, procurement, demise of a resident, etc. Well documented SOP is available for various tasks.Present Units:At present Akshaya homes are running at four locations, Mudichur, Pallikaranai Valasaravkkam, Pallavakkam and Vellappanchavadi . About Udhavum Ullangal:Udhavum Ullangal (UU) was founded in 2000 with an aim to Serve the People in distress at the right time in a right manner. Education : UU strongly believes that Educating Under privileged Children is the right way to empower them and it will lead to a bright future for them. Also, that there are many children who are in need of financial support and not getting the same.  It is important to identify them and extend the support.With this in mind, UU has supported about 19,942 children through out Tamilnadu with an amount of Rs.3.95 crores and it has been given in the form of scholarship and educational aids. UU wants to ensure that the money is used in the best possible way and hence, uses a process to validate the application properly.Its task does not stop after giving the money. UU monitors the students , both at the school and collegiate level, and supports them to successful completion of their studies. There exists a Mentoring process, which enables the Mentor meeting the assigned students periodically , understanding the progress and problem and counseling them appropriately..Besides this, UU also conducts soft skill programs, interview facing techniques, sharing of experience from the Industry seniors etc.. Sincere effort is made to prepare the students to be successful ....UU also assists many children from the Child Labor Rehabilitation Program in Virudhunagar district, in terms of education, mentoring and rehabilitation.Here are some  beneficiaries, whose lives were changed with assistance from Udhavum Ullangal ....Mayakannan was identified from the Child Labour Rehabilitation program and UU supported him for his Engineering studies, which he completed it successfully. UU's mentor counseled him to take up Government exams and he was selected by the Railways. Now he is a Loco Pilot, standing on his own and also a mentor and supporter of UU's programs.Mahalaksmi is the daughter of parents working in a match factory. Udhavum ullangal supported her Engineering Education. During mentoring sessions she expressed her desire to become a Collector. Udhavum Ullangal facilitated it. Subsequently, she successfully completed Group 1 examinations and she has now become a Deputy collector in Tirunelveli district.Skill Development and Women Empowerment : In the Indian Context, another suffering group is that of Women below poverty line, most of whom are not skilled and who find it challenging to make both ends meet. In order to uplift them, the only way is to provide them with skills so that they stand on their own and support their families as well.With the help of a Corporate Sponsor, Udhavum Ullangal has established 4 skill development centres in Chennai, where UU provides training to poor and needy Women. So far we have trained 3400 women in Tailoring , Beautician course and Basic commercial computing skill such as Tally. At any instant, there are about 200 getting trained in these courses. The result of this program is such that , nearly 60 percent of these women get placed by the time they complete their courses or in a position to earn on their own. Health - Fight against Cancer :It has been observed that about 70 percent of those affected by Cancer seek Medical help only when they are in advanced stages (3rd or 4th stage) of Cancer, which makes the treatment more difficult and expensive. Because of poverty, illiteracy and absence of medical facilities, the Cancer afflicted people understand their illness late and seek medical help also late. This situation is prevalent in most of the Developing nations.In this scenario, Dr.Shantha , Chair person of Cancer Institute , Adayar, inspired and encouraged Udhavum Ullangal to engage itself in Creating Awareness and Screening the people in rural areas, Diagnose for Cancer early and help those identified with it, to get treated early so that precious lives of the poor could be saved. Udhavum Ullangal established Nellai Cancer Care Centre (NCCC) in 2012 at Tirunelveli and commenced its program to fight against Cancer. The team comprises of Doctors, Nurses, Assistants and a Program Coordinator with support infra structure such as Mobile van, Cyto pathology laboratory and Patient consulting facilities etc. So far Udhavum Ullangal has conducted nearly 1500 camps and created awareness in nearly 1,42,000 people and screened 37,000 people. It has supported 103 Cancer patients, many of whom are cured and are surviving. An important point here is that UU maintains a High risk registry of nearly 1500 people, whom it monitors closely and follows up with them.In addition, Palliative care to poor patients is being extended with Udhavum Ullangal nurses visiting them at their place of stay and providing required care and treatment. Cancer Hospital : Plans are afoot to establish a Specialty Hospital treating  patients suffering from Cancer and other such diseases as there is a huge need for such a facility. Ten or Five ?? acres of land has been acquired at Chengulam, Tirunelveli. Initial plans are being prepared now.Support during Natural Calamities : India has been suffering with regular frequencies with natural calamities such as Hurricane , Flood, Earth quake and Pandemic now. Udhavum Ullangal has been extending a helping hand and providing support to those affected.Approvals, Recognition  and Certification :Udhavum Ullangal is a Certified NGO by Charity Aid Foundation, Give India and Benevity. Vaishnavi Welfare and Charitable Trust was created in 2014 with an intention to alleviate the problem of malnourishment in children through our ancient Indian sciences.While our primary focus is on addressing the problem of malnutrition in children, we recognize that malnourishment is about health, hygiene, nutrition, education and social development of children and which are interconnected with one another. Lack of access to proper nutrition, accounting for multiple deficiencies and deprivations. In addition to lack of access, poor understanding and lack of awareness of the burden of malnutrition and the importance of nutrition, and poverty inflates malnutrition and hidden hunger. The problem of hidden hunger is also increasing, which corresponds to vitamin and mineral deficiencies due to non-consumption of nutritious and healthy food. VWCT implements various programs in rural parts of Tamil Nadu to tackle the problem of malnutrition. Strategy of VWCTWe, at Vaishnavi Welfare and Charitable Trust, believe that health is not just the absence of disease but life in balance, complete happiness, success and fulfilment. Ayurveda/Siddha is the world’s oldest and most comprehensive scientific system of natural health care. It is a vedic tradition of India. Formally recognized by the World Health Organisation (WHO), it emphasizes on prevention of disease by promotion of health and longevity. This approach focuses on addressing malnourishment by tackling not just the symptoms but also key factors that lead to such conditions. The key principle of this approach is to understand the digestive and nutrient absorption capacity of a body.We believe and have full faith in the ancient tenets of Ayurveda/Siddha, to provide simple yet effective and holistic solutions to tackle the problem of malnutrition. Since our inception in 2014, we have been tirelessly working with the local community to address the problem of malnutrition. This is done through two main programs implemented by VWCT: Jeevani Milk Scheme and Malnourishment Free Gram Panchayats (MNFP).JEEVANI MILK PROGRAMThis programme was the first intervention by VWCT that addressed child nutrition. Through the Jeevani Milk program, children were provided milk with Ashwagandhadhi churna. Children suffering from malnourishment were given milk with this revitalizing herb, known for its healing properties. Health benefits of Ashwangandhadhi churna include supporting a balanced immune system and improved digestion. Other benefits like improvement in conditions of breathlessness, palpitation, optimum height and weight, energy levels/ stamina and back pain were observed among the beneficiaries. This program was undertaken from 2014 &amp; continues across the state of Tamil Nadu. The beneficiary count for this program includes 3439 children across the state.We currently want to support 600 children. Cost per child is Rs. 7000/- for a yearThe cost includes periodic doctor visits , milk on a daily basic with ashwagandhadhi churna, medicine for basic healthcare and nutritional snacks for the child.  MALNUTRITION FREE GRAM PANCHAYAT (MNFP)To take forward the initiatives to counter the problem of malnutrition, VWCT has started implementing A People Driven approach in congruence with the government initiatives. As Part of this 8 gram panchayats were adoptedThe MNFP is a community based project which integrates the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) along with Hygiene &amp; Sanitation and local governance.The first step of this approach involves undertaking need analysis, conducting surveys, understanding the community needs, focused group discussion and community involvement for solutions to the issues faced.Renovation of 45 ICDS centres- The study, needs analysis of the 47 ICDS centres in the Tirunelveli district revealed certain needs like improving infrastructure like toilets, painting of walls, in house water facility, toys, outdoor play equipment and educational materials for the children up to the age of 6 years. Two of the ICDS centers were successfully renovated.The ICDS at Anthoniapuram and Sivanthiyapuram were completely refurbished with good child friendly toilets, continuous supply of water, rainwater harvesting, a kitchen garden, indoor and outdoor educative painting and educative outdoor play equipment from recycled material.  Cost per center was from 4 lakhs to 5 lakhs. The other ICDS centers have a similar requirement with budget of 4lakhs to 25 lakhs.Kitchen garden at all the 45 ICDS centers which require fencing, cleaning, fresh soil and water facilities. This is government requirement which will get the children nutritious food. The cost incurred per centre is about Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,00,000A herb research centre guided by the top Siddha doctor, Dr Sivaraman and Ruthra polyclinic. This is to showcase all the valuable herbs of the Western Ghats and encourage collection and growing of these as home remedies for simple ailments. WASH Program- According to the World Health Organization, roughly 50% of all malnutrition is associated with repeated diarrhoea or intestinal worm infections as a direct result of inadequate water, sanitation and hygiene Study of Sanitation and hygiene requirements in the 8 gram panchayats revealed requirements like water testing labs and treatment plants. Solid waste management program needs to start with awareness along the guidelines of the SDG goals for every panchayat and implementation of at source segregation in every single household.In depth need analysis and resource mapping has been completed for kavalkinaru panchayat with an approximate budget of 10 lakhsAdvocacy and intervention in community through AYUSH clinic – AYUSH clinic is set up in Kavalkinaru, Tirunelveli with a certified Siddha doctor. Our clinic will provide medical screenings for malnutrition and other health issues among children and mothers. Recommendations will be based on AYUSH guidelines, and subsidized medicines and services will be offered. A minimum of 20 mothers and children will be attended to each month. Severe cases and referrals will be managed accordingly. We will employ AYUSH medicines like Ashwagandhathi churna when necessary. Additionally, we will identify families requiring support or referrals and connect them with relevant service providers. Our primary goal is to make Kavalkinaru a malnutrition-free village, with a special focus on the following beneficiary groups: <ul><li>Children below 6 years </li><li>Children from 6 to 12 years </li><li>Adolescents from 12 years to 18 years </li><li>Pregnant and lactating mothers </li></ul>Awareness camps and health camps are conducted by the Siddha physician in collaboration with our other partners (SEEDS trust and VMSSS) to spread the knowledge and practices enabling health, mindset to choose healthy foods and the use of AYUSH remedies. Mothers are brought together in ICDS centres and education relating to home remedies and antenatal care are conducted. School children and adolescent kids are taught about nutrition and menstrual hygiene.With infrastructure and professionals a budget of 12 lakhs is needed per year.Nutritional Laddu ProjectIn Malnutrition among under-five children is a major public health problem in India. This is reflected by the fact that the prevalence of under-weight children in India is among the highest in the world, Stunting, or low height for age, is caused by long-term insufficient nutrient intake and frequent infections. Objective of the Proposal:<ul><li>Identifying Moderately malnourished children and provide some nutritious food to improve their health status.</li><li>To do Nutrition and health education through Anganwadi Worker Home visits.</li><li>Provide Extra Complementary food for Moderately malnourished children.</li><li>To monitor and evaluate the improvement of the children.</li></ul>This projected was piloted in Kanyakumari district by giving 83,510 laddus to 900 children in 400 ICDS centers for 90 days through the Anganwadi workers. We are happy to share that this project has shown an improvement of 33% in the nutritional status of the babies in 2 months. The cost is Rs630 per child for the 90 days.Restoration of water bodies in Tirunelveli- Conservation of water bodies and restoration of rivers and tanks are gaining public momentum in India. Several waterbodies are restored with the active participation of the public in the recent past in Tamil Nadu.Anuman River near Panagudi, Tirunelveli is one of the rivers restored by the collective efforts of district administration, Anna University, Nam Anuman Nathi Society and farmers and beneficiaries of Anuman river in the year 2020. Following the restoration, 49 PWD tanks and more than 30 Union Panchayat tanks attained full capacity in the 2021 northwest monsoon. One of the tanks, Sivagami Puthukulam was restored by Vaishnavi Trust in 2022. A Farmers producers organisation with the farmers along Anuman Nadi was formed with the guidance of SammunatiPazhayaru, a 35km historical perennial river originating from Mahendragiri hills that flows through the Kanyakumari district is facing flash floods during every rainy season as the carrying capacity of the river has reduced to 20-40% in several places. FMB and DGPS survey was completed for the same in 2022 and encroachment removal is in progress.Similarly, Nambiyaru is another river in Tirunelveli district with a length of 48 kms. Similar situation is observed and the farmers association and villagers along the river have committed to restoring the river. A trust ‘ Namadu Nambiyaru’ was established for the implementation of the process.To be able to restore any water bodies, we propose to conduct an FMB and DGPS survey to enhance the accuracy of the digitalization of the river and to estimate the total cost required for a comprehensive restoration subsequently.Research and documentation We take our responsibility very seriously and engage in best form practices and document every detail for learning and improvement in the care we give our people. Arvind Foundation is a charitable organization for special needs children (children with cerebral palsy, Autism, ADHD, ADD, Down's syndrome, muscular dystrophy, mental retardation, epilepsy, hydrocephalus, microcephalus, spina bifida, chromosomal disorder, neurological disorder, dyslexia).Inspired by their son Arvind who is blessed to be a Cerebral Palsy child, Arvind Foundation was started by his parents in 2004 with the aim to help special needs children and their parents from underprivileged backgrounds. Our mission is to enable children, young adults, and adults with special needs to become independent through curative education, therapies, vocational training &amp; livelihood programs. From a humble beginning with 2 special needs children in 2004, today we serve about 140 such children and young adults through our 5 centers in Tamilnadu : KK Nagar - Chennai (2 centers) / Kolappancherry - Poonamallee / Chengelpet / Mannavanur ( Kodaikanal ).
