Dev Pratap and Chandni know what it means to go to bed hungry. They grew up in slums, picking rags and doing odd jobs to survive. The extent of the struggles here was beyond my imagination. These villages had no connectivity to the outside world, and very limited access to healthcare and quality education”, says Bipin Dhane, founder of the school. Bipin, who grew up in the small town of Satara in Maharashtra, faced countless financial hardships. Despite his struggles, Bipin secured admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and then went on to take up a job in Singapore. Owing to his childhood experiences Bipin was always inclined towards helping the less fortunate, and he believed in the transformative power of education. It was in 2016 that Bipin left his lucrative career abroad and moved to Majuli, to provide the children from this inaccessible river island education they were deprived of.“Whatever little money I had saved, I gave it to my parents. I had no money to start the school. It was then that villagers came together to build bamboo huts. Each family donated bamboo, wood, and whatever little they could. CLAYLAB initiative was started by 3 Teach For India Fellows on 27th April 2020 with an aim to support the students who had just cleared their 10th board exams. It was formally registered as a Section 8 company on 20th July 2020 and since then, it has grown into a large network of amazing teachers, Mentors, and learners.We envision a world where every child can avail of quality education with just a few clicks, withheld neither by their geographical location nor by their socio-economic conditions. We want to make higher education meaningful and accessible to all. We not only want our students to learn school curriculums but also want our students to enjoy a child-friendly environment, explore other subjects of their interests, do their passion projects, and develop themselves as leaders.We run 2 main programs:<ol><li>Mentorship program - where people from the professional world, voluntarily, mentor Grade 10, 11 &amp; 12 students on a one-to-one basis.</li><li>Academic support program - We support Grade 11 &amp; 12 students with after-school academic support</li></ol>

Students from less privileged families, when they move from Grade 10 to Grade 11 and start their higher secondary education, face a lot of challenges. Unfortunately, they get very little support from their families because their parents or other family members have never studied beyond school. We connect these students with Mentors (working professionals) on a one-to-one basis and these Mentors then support these students. Our support through our Mentors continues for these students for the next 2-3 years. This support will help these students-<ol><li>Continue with their education</li><li>Develop employability skills and come out of poverty</li><li>Become better citizens</li><li>And better future leaders of the country</li></ol>

Mentoring support for 1000 Grade-10 students from Government schools

Our students have lived in the same slum for more than 15 years but they still could not identify the state and the city in their address. When we showed them their place of residence on Google Maps and then zoomed out to see the city, state, country, and then the Earth, they could understand everything.For you and I, it might be a non-issue but imagine a Grade 10 student going to Grade 11 without having such basic knowledge of the world around them. Post Grade 10, most students go on to join colleges and schools that do not give them the homogenous environment that they were used to back in school. This makes academic progress even more difficult in Grade 11 and 12 because their academic textbooks are also filled with explanations and examples that students from low-income families have neither seen nor ever visualized.<img src="https://cfstatic.give.do/0dbeff3c-73ff-470f-912d-b27cac0becff.jpg" width="421" /> 
 At Claylab, we are working continuously to understand and solve this problem. We believe that “one solution fits all” does not work in education and we need to create more content through which students from disadvantaged backgrounds can also learn important concepts in academics.
