I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. Community Action for Rural Development (CARD) is an NGO working in the field of rural development for the last 36 years in Pudukkottai, Madurai, and Karur Districts of Tamil Nadu. CARD is a society registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 27 of 1975 since 14th December 1982. CARD is registered with the Commissioner of Income Tax, Government of India, under section 12AA and 80 G of the Income Tax Act 1961. CARD is also registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act(FCRA). Pudukkottai is one of the most backward districts in Tamil Nadu State. The district is very often hit by drought. The people in the district are mainly depended on agriculture and animal husbandry activities. The main source of water for cultivation are irrigation tanks and wells. The agricultural operation is only for six months in a year. The people are idle during the remaining period of the year. Paddy, groundnut, millet and vegetables  are the main crops of cultivation in the project area.There are 60 families at Arasanayagipuram village. It is a new settlement developed about 10 years back. All these families are homeless people settled from various villages by encroaching the government land. Now, the Government has given land document for this people. All the families are  engaged in coolie work. Mostly male members are engaged in stone cutting work. There are many poor and women headed families living in this village. Initially, 15 families will  be provided three goats each to generate income and their living standard through  this project 
 1. The proposed project will be implemented at Arasanayagipuram village for the benefit of 15 poor women headed families. The goat rearing is good income generating activity in the project area. Each woman will be given three goats, two female and one male goats. The cost of each goat is Rs,5500/-. The total cost of each goat unit is Rs.16500/-. All the goats will be insured to avoid any loss due to death.2.  The goat recipients of 15 poor women headed families will rear the goats and generate income. Two female goats will produce 2 to 4 kids every year. The beneficiaries will sell the male kids and keep the females for rearing. The income generated from this activity will be used to meet their family expenses and also to meet the educational expenses of their children. 
 The poor women will rear goats and meet their livelihood needs.They will meet the family expenses without any difficulty.They will meet the educational needs of their children.In general, the women will be empowered socially and economically through this project.

CARD is working with poor children and college students since 2009... CARD is supporting the school children by providing them with uniforms, school bags, writing material and toiletries required for one year. This proposal is to support that the poor college students who are in job oriented diploma courses in a rural polytechnic college at Hiraniyamangalam Mettupatti village, Kulithalai Taluk, Karur District, Tamil Nadu. Because of poverty, the poor parents are unable to pay both tuition and hostel fees for their children. As a result, the poor students are discontinuing their studies and going for coolie work along with their parents. The right to education is compromised for these students because of the impending poverty. 
 CARD has discussed with the college management and requested them to support some of the deserving students' boarding and lodging expenses. They have agreed to provide support, but there are many poor students continuing their education under financial problems and mental stress. In order to continue their education, the external support of Rs.2000/- per student per month is required. 
 The poor students who are supported by the college management are studying well. The burden of their parents to pay hostel fees for every month is reduced. The atmosphere for learning for the poor students is improved. The students stress and suffering are decreased. They are also able to concentrate on their studies.

Due to continuous and severe spread of Corona Virus, the schools and colleges reopening dates for the academic year 2020-2021 is not yet  announced by the State and Central Governments. The lock down announced by the Governments in March 2020  is continuing and the people in the rural areas are suffering very much for their basic needs. The Government of Tamil Nadu has planned to conduct classes for the children of Government schools through Government and Private TV Channels from 1st August 2020. The private schools in urban areas have already started on-line classes about two months back. But the private schools in rural areas are suffering very much to conduct on- line classes.  Because 80% of the rural children are from poor families and their parents do not have smart phones. It is an urgent need to provide text books  and tablets to enable the rural children to attend the on-line classes. The corona virus is spreading in rural areas and it will take many months to come to the normal situation. Hence it is planned to provide text books and tablets for 272  poor students of a rural school Sita Rajaram Public School functioning  at Muthu Nagar, Hiraniyamangalam Mettupatti, Kulithalai Taluk, Karur District, Tamil Nadu. The total strength of the school is 340 students. Out of them 20% of the children are having smart phones. 
 CARD is already working with Sita Rajaram Public School for the past five years. CARD has constructed two toilet blocks for the benefit of boys and girls of this school.. In order to enable 272 poor children of  a rural school   to attend the on-line classes along with other children , it is proposed to provide text books and  tablets for 272 children of Sita Rajaram Public School. The cost of  text books is Rs.1000/- and the cost of each tablet is Rs.4000/-.  
 The provision of text books will. reduce the burden of poor parents during the COVID -19 crisis.The provision of tablets will help the poor children to attend on-line classes along with other students of the school.The rural poor children will be able to attend classes during the COVID -19 crisis.

The pandemic has deeply affected the food and education of orphans across the country. Community Action for Rural Development has come to the rescue of a family of such orphans. A contribution of ₹750 will go towards providing food and education to 3 orphan children for a period of 1 month.Pandhuvakottai is a village located near Maruthankoneviduthi in Karambakudi Taluk of Pudukkottai District, Tamil Nadu. Three poor children Maruthupandian, 10 years old, Mahalakshmi, eight years old and Mahathi, five years old, are living under the care of grandmother. Their father Mr. Rengaraj died in 2016 due to addiction to alcohol and their Mrs. Renuka died due to cancer on 5th May 2021. Now, these three children are helpless and they need support to meet their educational and food expenses. They are studying in the local school.  
 Each child will be supplied uniform dress, school bag and educational and toiletries required for them for one year. This will cost Rs.3000/- per child. Towards their food expenses, an amount of Rs.750/- is required for each child per month. The total; requirement per child is Rs.9000/-. The amount required for one child is Rs.12,000/-. The total donation required for three children is Rs.36000/-. 
 They will go to the local school from their grandmother's house. Their basic needs are met. They will attend the school without any problems.
