There is a difference of approximately 16% between male and female literacy rates in Andhra Pradesh, India. While the male literacy rate was recorded at 75%, for females it was only 60%. The effect of this disparity is reflected in other statistics too, as the percentage of crime against women stands as the second highest. 
 Our project provides vocational training to women which, in turn, helps them to gain a sustainable livelihood.We provide 150 women with training in various subjects, including leaf plate making, dressmaking, and pickle making. These skills help them procure jobs in small factories or start their own micro enterprises; bringing an additional income to women and their families.We also provide vocational training to adolescent girls in 10 villages of Andhra Pradesh. This is in addition to imparting life-skills and sex education to them as well. Everything we work towards is to ensure these girls are affected in the most positive of ways. 
 We are raising money for our current group of 50 beneficiaries. These funds can change lives and provide them with a lifelong source of income.

19 out of 100 children in India are not attending school. This number increases significantly in coastal villages, which are highly vulnerable to cyclones and floods every year. As coastal families lose their homes and land, their children are forced to work and forget about getting an education. 
 We are actively involved in teaching parents of child labourers the importance of education and their duty towards their children. To date, we have enrolled 1058 children into non-formal schools and mainstreamed 491 children into regular schools. We pay for their school fees and provide them with school bags, uniforms, notebooks, and stationery so they are encouraged to attend school regularly. 
 One educated child is capable of changing their families history by pulling them out of poverty. A sum of Rs. 3500 (USD 70), can support one child’s educational expenses for an entire year.

Provide education to a poor, working child

CRASA is a Grassroots level Non-Profit organization working for the development of poor and needy people in coastal villages of Andhra Pradesh, India since 1998.CRASA was initiated by the 9 self-motivated volunteers, who responded to the cyclone relief in 1998. The relief services rendered to the victims gives them a lot of joy and self-satisfaction and motivation to them to continue such humanitarian services to the needy and poor people. With that motto they have establish the organization in December 1998. CRASA is ACCREDITATION by Credibility Alliance on Desirable Norms “ Accountability, Transparency and Good Governance”.

Compassionate Rural Association For Social Action

Odugu Venkateswaramma belongs to a fishing community. She passed Grade 7 but to carry on studying she had to travel to Machilipatnam, her nearest town. Unfortunately, her parents do not possess the means to pay for her educational needs. What’s more, Venkateswaramma felt embarrassed in front of her classmates because she didn’t have a school bag, adequate books, footwear, or the resources to travel.

With CRASA’s intervention, Venkateswaramma received two uniforms, reference books, notebooks, chappals, and money for travel. She attended school regularly, gained confidence in her studies, and was more than happy to accept our support.

We give middle level and high school level education to children who belong to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. This reduces the rate of school and ensures girls are given the same opportunities in education. Children’s rights will be protected by parents and the community.

Instilling educational confidence in young minds

Salomi is a young woman married to a farmer. As farmers, their income is often unstable as they are wholly reliant on the harvest season.

Salomi turned to CRASA for help as her family were unable to cope on the little money they earned from farming. We were more than happy to help and quickly admitted Salomi into our tailoring course with 150 other women. The speed at which she learnt the trade was impressively quick and the pieces she made were of very good quality.

Upon completion of the course, Salomi was given a sewing machine so she could go on to pursue a career in sewing. Not only has she continued with her sewing, but she now runs her own business, creating garments and selling them on successfully.
