For a mother who has spent her entire life loving and raising her child, being beaten and mercilessly thrown out onto the streets by her own son is too heartbreaking to overcome. But this is a common story among the elderly residents of the Guru Vishram Vridh Ashram. “I’ve seen mothers in old and torn clothes, their bodies smelling and their hands and feet rotting and covered in maggots,” shares Dr. G.P. Bhagat, founder of the ashram. These abandoned elderly men and women lay starving on the streets hoping for someone to rescue them from their suffering. Childhood cancer is mostly curable across the world. But in India, with up to 40% of children with cancer being malnourished at diagnosis, survival is a huge problem. We're on a mission to change that through our FoodHeals program. We give children undergoing cancer therapy at over 30 government and charity hospitals access to trained clinical paediatric nutritionists, expert dietary counsels, supplements, in-meals, hot meals, monthly ration baskets and caregiver support. My name is Sujit Vasanthan, I am someone who absolutely loves running and even if a day goes by without running, my day feels incomplete to me. Coupling this up with a cause that I strongly believe in, I decided to open a fundraiser exactly 31 days ago to raise Funds for Cuddles Foundation who work towards Curing Cancer in Underprivileged Children through holistic food and appropriate nutrition. For this, I started a 100KM run challenge as part of the Sunfeast- India moves as one Initiative to raise awareness for my beneficiary organisation- Cuddles Foundation, by taking up a challenge which involves movement to promote their cause. The target I set for the same is Rs 1,00,000. I am overjoyed and grateful to be able to successfully complete the 100KM challenge and to able to achieve the target that I set for this noble cause. Hello Everyone, I am extremely overwhelmed with the love and support that I have received from my fellow peers, colleagues, friends, family, their network, and others I have reached out to through various sources. Approximately 76,000 children may develop cancer every year in India. 40% out these are severely malnourished at the time of diagnosis. 
 For children with cancer, nutrition can mean the difference between life and death. Every child deserves a chance at a cure.We work with government and charity cancer hospitals to support children with nutritionists, food and supplements and nourish the children to fight cancer. Using a multi-pronged approach of nutritional counselling and diet planning, meal supplementation, ration baskets and hot meals, we are tackling a simple but ignored aspect of a child’s successful recovery from cancer.While undergoing treatment, it is necessary that the children have freshly prepared nutritious food in sufficient quantity and don't stay hungry for a long period of time. The pandemic has pushed many households in to poverty and distress, this includes families of children suffering from Cancer. While there was an evident disruption of essential healthcare services to these extremely vulnerable groups of children, they were also faced with lack of adequate nutrition which is extremely essential to support their treatment. Every Move Helps a Child Fight Cancer

We’ve noticed that families who move to other cities for treatment of their children don’t have enough to eat due to financial constraints - they’ve often left their jobs and mortgaged their assets to barely afford treatment and stay in the big city. 40% of children with cancer are malnourished at the time of their diagnosis. This makes their fight for survival even harder. Malnutrition has severe impacts on cancer treatment. It affects the child’s daily calorie intake and her ability to fight cancer thereby slowing treatment response and worsening the family’s financial situation. The chances of abandoning treatment are very high without additional support for the family. 
 Cuddles’ Ration Program provides a family of four with adequate monthly ration. This ensures that the child is provided with wholesome meals at home, enabling her to fight cancer better. We prioritize families who belong to low-income groups and have come from outstation locations for their child’s treatment.The need for ration support is higher than ever now, with COVID-related disruptions to daily livelihoods. This is a powerful incentive for families to continue with their child’s treatment.What goes into a ration bundle?Our monthly ration bundle feeds a family of four. In India, the post-COVID effects have set in. Our patient families are dealing with a twofold setback - of their children battling both cancer and the threat of COVID. Caregivers, most of them being daily wage earners, are living with multiple vulnerabilities. With little or no source of income owing to large-scale lockdowns in the past year, they are forced to choose between their child's treatment and the next meal for the family, a choice no parent should ever have to make.Under these trying circumstances, we would like to reach out to you, our friends, to support our mission to give every child fighting cancer a chance at survival through food. A fighting chance, after all, starts with a full stomach. TATA Memorial Hospital (TMH) is the national comprehensive cancer centre for the prevention, treatment, education and research in Cancer. It is one of the leading cancer centres in this part of the world. We started our operations 9 yrs back at TMH and have been working closely with its paediatric oncology wing in treating patients here from all parts of the country.
