A quick-moving pathogen spreading across the globe has the potential to kill tens of millions of people, disrupt economies, and destabilize national security – just as COVID-19 has demonstrated. 
 COVID-19 has unleashed a worldwide shock wave with severe health, economic and social consequences which will affect many countries for years to come. Pandemic preparedness and disease surveillance anchored in strong health systems that reach all people—especially the most vulnerable—are crucial to ensure better protection from major disease outbreaks. Ensuring and investing in preparedness before a crisis strikes saves lives and ultimately saves money. 
 People will be helped in all possible ways to get relief because of pandemic.

Blindness continues to be one of the major public health problems in our country. Cataract and corneal diseases are major causes of blindness in countries with less-developed economies. According to the WHO, corneal diseases are among the major causes of vision loss and blindness in the world today, after cataract and glaucoma. In India, it is estimated that there are approximately 6.8 million people who have vision less than 6/60 in at least one eye due to corneal diseases; of these, about a million have bilateral involvement. It is expected that the number of individuals with unilateral corneal blindness in India will increase to 10.6 million by 2020. 
 We are creating awareness amongst the masses and trying to make eye donation a family tradition. For this, we target youth which will help to make three generations aware about eye donation. Along with awareness, we are also establishing a series of eye banks and transplantation centers where no eye donation or transplantation facility is presently available. These eye banks will provide round-the-clock eye donation facility which will ensure increase in the number of eye donations. To ease the eye donation process, we are connecting specialty and super specialty hospitals with our eye bank network so that we can reach the deceased family for counseling and complete the eye donation procedure in the hospital only. We are conducting regular eye checkup and screening camps to identify corneal blinds so that their names can be enrolled in the recipient waiting list. All these efforts are undertaken to ensure efficiency and transparency in eye donation and distribution system. 
 Due to local availibility of round-the-clock eye donation facility, number of eye donation will increase. Because of less distance between eye bank and place of eye donation, this would become a common practice. Corneal blinds can easily register their name in the waiting list of eye bank or transplantation centre as it is locally available. We are also going to collabrate with hospitals for cornea retrival program which will help us to get in touch with the familes of deseased people in the hospital and even enucleation process can be done in the hospital

Help provide eye donation and transplantation opportunities to the needy

 Under the Roshni Zindagi Mein Campaign, we conduct eye donation awareness campaign in school and colleges across the state. We are trying to spread awareness about the virtue of donating eyes via public programs and special events like festivals, jatras, yatras, kumbh mela, etc across Maharashtra. Also, we are sensitizing people in hospitals and connecting them with the eye banks of respective district. 
 The rationale behind this campaign is to bring efficiency and transparency in eye donation and distribution system. Once people realize the importance of eye donation, it will become a mass movement. This will help India tackle the problem of corneal blindness. Due to local availability of round-the-clock eye donation facility, number of eye donation will increase. By connecting the hospital and clinics to the eye banks of respective district, eye bank team will get easily connected with the family of deceased and even enucleation process will be done in the hospital.

Roshni Zindagi Mein: Help spread awareness about the benefits of eye donation

It is expected that the number of individuals with unilateral corneal blindness in India will increase to 10.6 million by 2020. 
 We are creating awareness amongst the masses and trying to make eye donation a family tradition. Our Mobile Eye Care Units are reaching rural and remote areas for providing eye care facility.Now, we're planning to launch Deesha Netralaya, a charitable eye hospital which will provide complete eye care at affordable cost. 
 • Access to quality eye care: People need to visit district place as eye care facilities are rarely available in rural areas which not only cost money but also, they lose their daily wages. Also, patient need someone to accompany, someone from the family, resulting in the loss of daily wages of two people. Because of this they kept postponing or opt not to go for eye checkup. Due to easy access of eye care at their door step, more people will go for eye checkup without losing their wages.• Independency: People wouldn’t require company due to proximity of mobile eye care unit in village.• Low iteration: Through individual counselling we can convince cataract patients for surgery. We can monitor them and take feedback which will result in low surgery iteration rate.• Touching more lives: Door services will convince people for regular eye check-up.

Medical Equipments for Deesha Netralaya

Corneal Blindness continues to be one of the major public health problems in our country. Presently only solution for corneal blindness is the transplantation of eyes from the deceased. According to the NPCB estimates, there are currently 200,000 corneal blind persons in the country and it is estimated that there is an addition of 25000 - 30000 corneal blindness cases every year in the country. 
 Taking the importance of eye donation into consideration, the DEESHA Group has started working for eye donation awareness in 2005. Considering the need to strengthen the eye banking infrastructure and make eye donation hassle-free for the family, Deesha International Eye Banks has been established in Amravati, Yavatmal, Washim and Buldhana Districts. The foundation wishes to make the eye banking infrastructure in line with the best practices across the globe. The foundation needs an "Eye Banking Specular Microscope" which will help us to increase tissue utilization rate, i.e., more number donated eyes will be utilized for transplantation to the corneal blinds. 
 The microscope will help us to evaluate the cells of donated corneas and accordingly it can be transplanted to multiple people with negligible wastage of donated eyes.

Eye donation is donating one’s eyes (cornea) after his / her death and transplanting it to the corneal blind. Only corneal blinds can be benefited from this process. In India, nearly 2-3 million people suffer from corneal blindness, which could be cured through eye donation. But there is a huge supply-demand gap for eye donation, which makes eye transplantation difficult. 
 The Deesha Education Foundation has started a chain of Deesha International Eye Banks and Eye Retrieval Centers after identifying the areas where the facility was unavailable or there was a disruption in the cold chain. Currently, Deesha International Eye Bank have branches in Amravati, Yavatmal, Washim and Buldhana, and soon it will branch at six new locations. Eye banks play a vital role in eradicating corneal blindness by providing round-the-clock eye donation facilities, processing and storing donated cornea etc. In India, eye banking is still nascent, and most areas don't have eye donation facilities. Also, the tissue utilization rate across the country is less than in developed nations. 
 The Deesha International Eye Bank provides a 24x7 eye donation facility and makes the eye donation process hassle-free for the deceased's family. The eye banks also ensure the processing of donated eyes while ensuring the highest standards. Thus, increasing the tissue utilization rate (number of eyes out of 100 used for gifting eyesight to corneal blinds).
