I was filled with anguish and resolved to do something,” says Girish Kulkarni who has made it his life’s mission to rescue children from red light areas and give them a safe and secure childhood. In the last 3 decades Girish has saved over 1100 girls from a life of abuse in red-light areas, giving them a loving home, education and medical care. “I used to be sexually abused repeatedly, and when I screamed in pain, they hit and threatened me with more violence,” says Priya (name changed), a rescued child sex worker. Priya was abducted by traffickers and sold into a red-light area house before she was rescued by Guria led by Manju. For over two decades, Manju has been rescuing young girls forced into prostitution across the country. She has been shaken to the core seeing some of the most horrifying crimes that young girls have to undergo. “You can’t imagine the state of girls forced into sex work. The girls are given electric shocks and burnt with cigarette butts just to get kicks out of it. And if they get pregnant, the "owners" kick them repeatedly in the womb so that the child inside dies…If you want to see hell, it is here on this planet where young girls are sexually abused,” says Manju.Manju needs your help to rescue more young girls from forced prostitution and reunite them with their families. Donate now.Guria’s work over the yearsBased out of Varanasi, inarguably the holiest place in India, Manju and her organisation Guria, fights the sexual exploitation of girls, especially minors, by taking on the traffickers head-on, and rescuing and rehabilitating them.Started in 1993, Guria has rescued over 5500 persons from slavery, sex trafficking, and child prostitution so far. It has also been instrumental in shutting down hundreds of places that housed trafficked girls and putting scores of traffickers out of business and in jail.For instance, in 2005, a Guria-led rescue operation in Varanasi's red-light area led to the freeing of 49 women and girls, including minors. Many of them were kept against their will. Some of the traffickers were also arrested and tried. Since then, Guria has rescued thousands of young girls.Manju and her husband, Ajeet Singh began rescuing girls from Varanasi’s red-light areas and then working to stop the sex-trafficking of young girls within Uttar Pradesh and outside. The organisation’s aim is to eliminate the sex trafficking of women, especially minor girls, end second-generation prostitution and child prostitution, and rehabilitate women and girls who are rescued from the trade. Manju has faced violent backlash from the traffickers and other vested interests, but it has not deterred her from carrying on rescuing young girls from trafficking. Rescue and rehabilitationBesides rescuing girls trafficked for sex, mostly from low-income families, from across the country, Guria fights on their behalf in courts and also provides education, food, vocational training, and other facilities until they are united with their families. But because of a lack of funds, Guria is finding it difficult to rescue more girls and also take care of them once they are away from the clutches of the traffickers. Take the case of Sameena (name changed), who was abducted from Uttar Pradesh all the way to Telangana. Guria took it upon itself to rescue the girl with the help of its own work and also the authorities. After months of rehabilitation, Sameena went back to her family and even completed her education. Crafting a society which would protect and safeguard the rights and respect children is an important agenda of the Don Bosco Sneha Bhavan Project. Through specialized service in the field of education, counseling help, awareness creation, repatriation and rehabilitation for the children and youth at risk, Don Bosco Sneha Bhavan has created a niche for itself in the field of child care and protection. The process of grooming and providing services to the young at risk is achieved through the seven centers of the Don Bosco Sneha Bhavan project, which offer a variety of options in shelter, education and rehabilitation to different types of children and youth in need. These six centres range from a drop-in centre (Sneha Bhavan Annexe) through to semi-permanent residencies (Sneha Bhavan, Don Bosco, Valsalya Bhavan, Valsalya bhavan annexe and Bosco Nilayam , Don Bosco Psycho social support centre ) for those who quit the streets or are from similarly unhealthy environments. We aim to meet the individual needs of these children and youth at risk by providing shelter, food, clothing, counseling and education opportunities amongst many other services, giving them the best chance for a more prosperous future.

Don Bosco Welfare Center Society is an Indian charity working for underprivileged girls and boys in the city of Cochin, Kerala. Currently we provide shelter and education for 100 boys and 40 girls in our centers. Unlike any other child care institution we provide aftercare services to the children who are above the age of 18 years. Aftercare is a preparatory stage for young adults during which we provide support for their higher education, coaching for entrance examinations, professional training and career development. During this period, they are also encouraged for part time jobs and manage an independent kitchen as part of the process of equipping them for future independent life. Due to the COVID 19 pandemic our residents are unable to find part time jobs due to the lockdown restrictions in the state of Kerala. We have eight boys who are in need of part time jobs in order to lead a better life. 
 Don Bosco has identified potential areas where we could create part time jobs during this time are food delivery and Taxi services. in order to start this venture we are in need of bikes for food delivery and Electric Auto for the Taxi Service. We also need to help the youth to get the driving license in order to prepare them for the part time job. 
 The Electric auto and Bikes purchased through the CHARM project can used for the food delivery and Taxi services. Those vehicles will be used by the youth on a rotation basis, so that everyone can earn a reasonable income for his living. This will directly help an orphan boy to be self sufficient and continue his higher education

CHARM

We are focusing on XI, XII class students who are intelligent and are from needy families, and would like to continue their further education. Don Bosco Welfare Centre Society is actively involved in reaching out to the poor of the locality around our ‘homes’/centres. We have initiated outreach programmes for those around Don Bosco Palluruthy and ValsalyaBhavanAnnexe ,Vaduthala, Cochin.They include life-skills training, counseling, scholarship, encouraging savings, music classes, martial arts, yoga, vacation camps and similar activities. Going around, we have come across many capable children struggling to continue their studies due to their poor economic background. This project is to help the capable children to continue their studies. It will promote the well-being of economically poor families, will improve the quality of life of deserving young students, will prevent dropouts, will promote the welfare of society in general and besides the families concerned will save the lives of young people who want to succeed. Recipients will be chosen from the list submitted by the schools and/or community leaders. The final selection will be done by a panel consisting of two or three community leaders, school authorities with the executive director as the chairman.

 We have been in the field of educating the marginalised youth /children for the past 45 years. Over these years few thousands of children have passed through the institution, Many are reintegrated back into the family or society. Keeping with the needs of the times we have ventured into other fields connected with the problems of marginalisation and destitution like, counselling, scholarship, migrant youth issues, awareness compaigns against child labour, drug abuse, family counselling, etc.The motivation level of the children in the instituion have gone up and many are motivated to study and become some one in life.
