We, a group of people, working across India, share a dream. A dream of a developed India. An India free of poverty and illiteracy. An India which realizes its full potential in every domain. At present this is not happening in India. There is a lot of work to be done if these dream are to be achieved within an acceptable time frame. Where were we? oh we decided to look for good private school options in the neighbourhood. Its a good thing Chris likes to walk, he put on his walking shoes and started scouting the neighbourhood and after leaving out the very expensive looking, very run down looking ones, he identified one in the mid range and then setup an appointment with the head master. We both met the person in his cabin and he spoke sooo much about his family and how they are into so many businesses and how by change he decided to start a school (not inspiring at all so far). Some excerpts below: About discipline in school? Oh the teachers have to use strong means at times, we cant help it. It is for the good of the kids.School vision: 100%pass mark every batch in 10th. That is most important. We dont care much about other things.Extra curriculars - We have some clubs. Kids can participat. Some kids were not able to afford uniforms for karate class, so they study during that session.Extra support for our kids, as they dont know English much: Teachers will try best to teach, else after school some 30 mins they can stay back. Beyond that, we cant ask them to stay back. End of year, we can do some special class for them.But till end of year how will kids manage? if enough parents come and complain, we can do some special class during mid term, but kids have to skip extra curricular classes. We left the school happy. Happy not cos it was a good school but happy that we were able to make a quick decision. That we wont put our kids here. It didn't feel like the kids will have a good schooling experience here. Not to mention the philisophy of the school towards the concept of education seemed all skewed. So we left in the hope of finding a better school before the holidays were over. Meanwhile, the kids were waiting with bated breath if they will get to go to a nice school. More on that, in my next update :)

I thought i will give some back dated updates (1 day at a time) to give you an indication of what happened here.. now that the school session is over, and summer holidays are on..one of the girls in the study center came to chris, our volunteer, and told him to talk to her parents and ensure they dont shift her to a boarding school in their village, now that she is finishing her 5th grade in her current school. It seems to be the norm for people in this community to send their kids to a particular boarding school near their village, far from Bangalore. Now, both the quality of experience in that school and the thought of leaving the city, is not sitting well with the kids, and hence she wanted Chris to talk to her parents. Then other children came and asked Chris the same thing. I cant help but feel that they would miss his sessions too if they moved out from Bangalore. Chris and I spoke about this and decided that we would raise money to move those kids to a nearby private school. We did consider all nearby public school options, but were still tempted to move to a more functional system. So, finally decided to search for a good private school nearby. More on what happened next.. in the next update!

Education status in our country stand at an abysmally low level. Children from rural areas are the worst affected in this regard. Many of the rural children are quite talented in different fields. But these bundles of talent do not get the opportunity to showcase it. Lack of infrastructure and appropriate platform are primarily the reasons which deter the students to express themselves or display their skills. 
 At Dream India, we plan to address this issue by conducting educational festival for children. We have been conducting two-day long events from different genres like elocution, essay, drawing, quiz, Thirukural recitation and various other activities since 2008 at various places in Tamil Nadu. To inculcate a sense of motivation and appreciate their efforts, we honour the children with prizes like books, trophies, medals and certificates. 
 We have received an overwhelming response for this festival. Till now, around 300 budding talents have displayed their skills. It has contributed to tremendous increase in their confidence and personality development. Children from SV destitute home have started winning at district level competitions. We plan to expand to grass root levels in 2016-2017. We are hopeful of achieving this target, with your support.

 Support Educational Festival for Rural Children

Make Diwali a real one for all Children.Dream India has been working with the children of following rural government schools and home since 2008.We provide support to the children by conducting educational festivals, educational tours, set up computer labs, assist in teacher salary/stipend, career guidance, mentoring support, educational scholarship for higher education etc.Majority of these government school children have parents who are working as daily wagers and hence having a new set of dress or sweets or crackers is a real luxury for them. Last year we provided "Diwali For All" gift set to 120 rural children and experienced the real Diwali happiness. This year we want to do for 990 Children. 
 This year we have taken steps to reach out to 990 children and ensure they get the Diwali Gift Set.We are working with the HM/Staff of the school and have collected the name list of Children. The measurements would be done by them and each one will get a dress as per their measurement. The sweets and snacks also will be arranged by the HM and Staff. Each kid will be provided with the Diwali Gift Set - "New Dress, Sweets, Snacks and Sparklers"Cost of Each Such Kit would be 1200 INR<img src="https://cfstatic.give.do/084a96d9-ea84-4a7a-8b09-46cc781ee927.PNG" />Kindly note that each of the rupee donated will be used for the benefit of the children. We have ZERO admin cost model and all administrative cost, if any, will be taken by Dream India trustees.

Dream India team is working with about 10+ government schools and homes across India. Many of these children lack awareness on the opportunities available for them and end up dropping out of school once they complete their 10th or 12th.The main reason for this could possibly beo Lack of awareness/exposureo Absence of parental careo Parents work in the city as labourerso No proper intervention or mentorship 
 We are addressing this issue by the following plan of actions:1. Career guidance S\session2. Youth education festivals3. Educational tours4. Scholarship As part of the educational tour, children are brought to Chennai and they visit places like the city planetarium and museum. We also take them to a factories/corporate offices to make them familiar with the working environment. They also get a fun metro ride and one of their wishes from their list of wishes is fulfilled. This typically costs about 500 INR per kid. We plan to bring about 200 children per year. 
 Children understand the possible opportunities available and seek support/assistance from teachers/Dream India to pursue their education. We have also seen that children are now able to appreciate the potential of education and have begun to understand how they can do better in life once they complete their education. Many of them do not have means to see their long standing wishes getting fulfilled. We collect 3 items in a wishl-ist from them and surprise them with a gift - Gift A Smile - when they make a visit.

Gift A Smile for Rural Government School Children

Dream India works with close to about 13 govt schools and various homes in Tamil Nadu. We also have our study center in Bangalore and Mumbai. We have received educational scholarship requests from the children of these government schools for higher education and also children of our study center for school education. These government schools are in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvannamalai, Cuddalore and other parts of TN. We also work with various homes like Udhavum Nanbargal, Payir, SV home and Vasantham were the children need educational assistance.
