With over 1.5 million schools and 250 million students, the Indian school education system is one of the largest in the world. With 84.71% of the 1.5 million schools in India being rural, remote, tribal schools, the limited quality of education and lack of access to educational resources continue to remain a huge challenge.In 2018, we started traveling to and living with Tribal, rural, and forest communities in Uttarakhand. As part of our experiences and conversations with people, the need for education was highlighted. We started to work in a Forest school in the Mohand range of Shivalik forest adjacent to Rajaji National Park. In 2020 we reached out to rehabilitated forest zones for pastoral nomadic communities. I started working with govt schools in the area in 2021. We have been consistently enabling community youth, especially girls. Today we have a total of 20 community youth engaged with us as team members, fellows, and volunteers. We have created local language material and also stories of the communities. We have set up 5 libraries in total across the public schools with daily sessions for children. The learning kits, projects, and teaching learning materials have been contextualised.
